How can I keep a DShK from jamming?
I have a DShK (no, not personally) that jams after every 3-5 rounds. A co-worker of mine says this happens because the rounds are lacquered to prevent corrosion, and the lacquer heats up in the chamber and gums everything up. Any suggestions on how I can clean the lacquer off the rounds? (Preferrably without taking the links apart)
Note: For the curious, the DShK is a Soviet/Russian Heavy Machine Gun, comparable to the M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun.

First of all the lacquer is designed to assist the extraction process. When the round is fired the lacquer chars and in effect lubricates the round during the extraction process.
The next issue you have is that you need to troubleshoot the jams. At what part of the weapon's cycle are the jams occurring?
Hint: if the jams are caused by a failure to extract the cartridge then you need to take a close look at the extractor on the bolt.
