Does any branch of the military actually use the term "rank up" to decribe promotions?

Just wondering, since so many questions on Yahoo ANswers refer to "ranking up," and I'd never heard of it before here.

Thanks

Update:

To the user named Air Force:

Where have you heard the term used?

Update 2:

lol

Thanks, Wayne.

SFC M, These are kids that get their ideas from video games, language from the street. They have access to this and think they are using real terms.

Kids, nothing but a bunch of runny nosed kids.

I know you already know that and are simply frustrated.

I say that "we" who have shown up ignore them and their silly questions about "Who is best", "Who would win this fight" "I want to be Infantry" "How do I rank up". I squirm a bit when they say this and being an officer in the same sentence!!!

I fall prey to some myself and dig my spurs in. Gives me a chance to write a creative and sometimes humorous piece.

PLEASE do not hurt yourself banging your head on the wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've not heard the term in my years of service. I've spent some time with Marines as my brother was also on active duty. Might be an Air Force or Navy term - it's not an Army or Marine Corps term.

That term doesn't exist in the Navy. We use advanced, promoted, made rank, and selected. We also use the expression "fleet up" for someone that moves up in position but not rank, but I have never heard someone say "rank up".

I won't speak for the other branched, but the most common term in the Navy is "advancement." A common occurrence is for an enlisted man to pass the exam for a promotion, but due to other factors he is scored as "PNA" - Passed, Not Advanced.
