DVD+R vs DVD-R what is the difference?

Any suggestions on why all the movies that i have burnt to dvd-r will work fine, but the latest case of blank dvd's i bought was dvd+r will not work. All are burnt by the same program TVC, and all to the same settings.

Update:

I have a 2 week old samsung dvd player that supports dvd+r.

There are still some players / recorders that will only accept one or the other, although it's rare these days. It has to do with brand names (sony, phillips, etc) more than any thing else.

I have a 5 yr old sony burner that will only burn plus, so you'll have to check the spec's on the equipment you are using.

No real difference but DVD+R one is able to change the booktype (the information on the disc which states what kind of disc it is, ie. DVD-ROM, DVD+R, XBOX). DVD+R is considered by some to be a higher grade disc but likely not true.

You've got me... I am still trying to figure out what an 8-track tape is.
