Civil War Generals as Prisoners?

Capture for generals was a lot different in the Civil War then for soldiers. I know at the battle of Ft. Donelson, Grant and Buckner were best friends before the war. When Grant captured the fort, he offered to loan Bucknerl money to set himself up during his imprionment.

Most of the time, Generals were usually exchanged in a prisoner exchange which is how Buckner got back into the war.
