Cast iron oval dutch ovens?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could tell me about these cast iron oval shaped dutch ovens. What exactly are they designed to cook? And why is there a difference between round ones and oval ones? I recently recieved one of each shape and was curious why the oval one is...oval? Or is it just to look nice? Thank you!

an oval dutch oven is meant to be used with a roast or a fowl (as opposed to a stew) so that the piece of meat of the bird (being longer than they are wide) receives heat from all sides evenly.

I think they are just a trendy shape, kind of the style right now. The only benefit I can see is if you want to raost a whole chicken or small turkey in one in the oven... it'll fit easier in an oval than in a round one. But I'd only have 1 or the other in my kitchen; I can't see having both.

According to my Grandmother to whom I asked that question many years ago- When cooking over an open fire or burner use the round one, it will "catch the heat" better. If you're cooking on the fireplace hearth, which very few of us do today, use the oval one. The longer sides "catch the heat better" That being said, use the one that fits your meal the best. They both do the same job.
