My Dog Has Really Smelly Farts!?
My husband and I have a 8 year old 90lb Lab/Dobberman Mix and she has some of the smellest farts EVER. They smell like stale/rotten popcorn. I know she isn't eating the best food, she is on pedigree, we're wanted to switch her over to something better, but we aren't sure what? Anyone have any ideas on what would be a good food? It needs to be relatively inexpensive, times are hard for everyone, but it needs to be good for her. Also, her smellyness has just recently started, I know she isn't getting into anything in the house, our trashcan is covered and no food is left out and she isn't allowed people food and our cats litter box and their food is out of her reach, so it has to be from outside. Could cat or rabbit leavings in the yard be contributing to her stinky farts? Thanks for all your answers...
She doesn't eat canned, she only eat dry.

The food you've got her on might be to blame. Pedigree is full of poor quality protein sources and fillers.
Look into foods that list a named, whole meat as the first ingredient and does not contain any wheat, corn, soy, gluten or animal by-products. It'll be a bit more expensive that Pedigree but your dog will smell better and be all-around healthier. :)
Here's a list of foods I'd recommend:
Wellness http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/
Blue Buffalo http://www.bluebuff.com/
Solid Gold http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/
Innova http://www.naturapet.com/
Chicken Soup For The Pet Lovers Soul http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/
Merrick http://www.merrickpetcare.com/
Canidae http://www.canidae.com/

Best of luck to you. :)

If you're feeding your dog wet canned food that's the reason. If you feed your dog dry food their farts wont smell. Your dog will fart occasionally because it's natural just like in humans. Also eating other animals feces would make her breath smell not her farts. As to the brand I give my dogs the Pedigree and they're healthy as can be. If you are going to switch your dogs to a dry food do it gradually mix some of the dry nuggets in with the wet food at first and gradually increase the amount. Now most dogs prefer the wet food to the dry so your dog may be put off for a while but she eat when she gets hungry a dog will never starve itself when there is food available. If after a week or so on her new dry diet the farting doesn't improve I would bring her to a vet because she may have intestinal problems. Hope this helps and good luck.

There are some superior dog foods that cost $50, $60, $70 and up for a 33 or 40 lb bag.
I have 9 dogs so I cannot feed that expensive of a food. I feed Diamond, which is about a level 3 or 4 and costs about $34.00 for 40 pounds. That I can afford.
And it is FAR better than Purina, Iams, Science Diet....

Sorry, but most cheap food is just that......cheap. The first ingredient is corn which makes a dog have bad, smelly gas. Any dog food where corn isn't an ingredient and meat is the first ingredient is good food. The good thing about this food is you feed less, so it lasts longer. I buy 35 pound bags of Canidae Lamb Meal & Rice dog food for $44. The bag lasts me about a month or more and I'm feeding 2 large breed dogs. Here's the site for the store I get my food from: http://www.naturally4paws.com/19.html?sm=29659. They have tons of good choices and descriptions for all the food so you can pick what's best for your dog. Good luck!

I would eliminate the pasta as it's wheat based and as mentioned try switching (gradually) his kibble to Wellness, Halo, Blue Buffalo or any other diet that does not have grains in it. Do NOT let your dogs free feed. They are to have 2 meals a day, 20 minute feeding periods and then pick up the bowls. Also is he in competition for his meals, that is, does he gobble them down so the other dogs don't get to his food. He may be eating too fast. Also, since GSD's are prone to bloat, try to raise the bowl up higher and don't engage in any play for an hour or 2 after meals.

I have provided a link to an INDEPENDANT website below that helped me tremendously in choosing a dog food. I chose Blue Buffalo and am very happy with it. It is more expensive and can be purchased at Petsmart, Petco or online.
Grocery store food is crap-all of it. That said, many animals have lived long, healthy lives on grocery store pet food. So have humans on pizza and twinkies.
Dogs gets gas just like we do. There is nothing wrong with wet food and it is very beneficial. I give my dog a mix of wet and dry daily.

I switched to Eagle Pack Holistic (use only their holistic formula) and it fixed my dog's issue right away. If that is too expensive, they do make a digestive enzyme that can be added to the dog's food--but you really do want to switch her. Pedigree is not all that healthy. The fact that her smelliness has just started could simply be age. Her stomach is having difficulty digesting low quality food. I would try Eagle Pack Holistic and if that doesn't work, I would speak to my vet.

I have the same problem with my 7yr old female dobberman,
Her main diet would be canned dog food (pedigree)
And it wasnt a problem but over time it would be.
I cut her to dry food where she could pick at all day and gave her more bones and would give her canned food every second day mixed with the dry food and i havent had a problem since !!
So my best advice to you is put more dry food into her diet and less canned food... :)
