concerning cellphones in school, is this against the law?

is it against the law for the deans of a school to walk into a classroom and demand that all the students hand over their cellphones because one kid's cellphone went off and the teacher could not figure out whose it was?

Update:

But how can the deans take the phones if they don't even know the students are in possession of them? what if they go as far as bringing a female teacher into the room so that the girls cannot but their cell in their bra?

If the school has a no cellphones policy, then it seems to me like they've clearly defined the rules. Read your school's handbook and see if it is included.

If it is not and your parents support you, have them schedule an appointment with the school's administrator for a discussion regarding this topic.

It is against the school regulations to have cell phones at school.

Yes, they can take them at any time and discipline the students.

You should NEVER bring your phone to school.

No, as the school makes the rules as to what is allowed in school and what is not.

Kids are always coughing up stuff give it cell phones or candy and gum.

No way! However, it could be against the school's rules; that, you need to look up in the rules.

    Of course not!

The school make the policy. It's up to the students to respect it, and up to the administration to enforce it.

They should look more into whose went off... and cells do things you can easily tell whose cellphone went off its probably not in the person's control...They should cut you more breaks.

If you are not allowed to have them in school, then no. You have to abide by the rules and if you don't, then you do not have rights concerning contraband.
