What age should I start bringing my kid to the theater?

Knowing that he'll enjoy it, not make a fuss and actually sit down for 2 hours to watch.

I know its more of a maturity or behavior thing.... but I'm more looking for a general age from everyone. I'm just curious when you felt your kid was ready so I have an idea.

I know that you want a specific age but every child is different. My oldest who is 3 1/2 years old can just now sit through a movie fairly well. However, my youngest who is 2 can already sit through a movie. If a child can mostly make it through a movie at home then they should do find at the theater but if they tend to get up a lot or move around the house and only pay attention to the action scenes then they will probably do the same at the movie theater. Just be prepared to leave or step out if they disturb other people in the theater.

When they can sit through it and be quiet and not run around or be loud once the movie starts.

My little boy is 2 but he gets restless 3/4 of the way through a movie. We don't go often and a couple times we missed the end of some movies because he just couldn't do it completely. As a mom I don't think it's fair to ruin other paying customers movie with a child that can't sit still through the entire show. Every kid is different though. Some can do it at 2 and some not until they are much older. Try it out with a child friendly movie and see what happens. The worst outcome will be you'll have to leave and just be out your ticket money.

We took our daughter at 2 1/2 to Kung Fu Panda and she was definitely NOT ready. Just try it once and see how it goes and be prepared to leave before it ends if you have to. Our problem is that the cheaper matinees always hit her nap time, so she might do better at an evening show but we haven't tried that yet -- also she's 3 now but has a baby sister who can't go yet.

I took my son to the Theaters for the first time when he was 1 1/2 If you get them used to it they will know that going to the movies is a place where you go to ENJOY the movie and have to be quite. THey will get it :)

My son is now 4 and he is GREAT at the movies! Its like a treat for him, If he is good we take him and he acts PERFECT over there.

sure--start taking him at one month. he'll probably sleep through it. go to the day showings, there are more likely to be other kids around and the adults tend to be more tolerating. you'll just have to see. i took my two year old a couple of times and he sat in my lap for a good while. then one day he just didn't want to sit at all. now he's back in my lap. but it was a year after he started eating a pickle off the floor before we went back! ew. i've also got an eight year old, sometimes i find him asleep in the chair next to me. be flexible with your kid, it'll work out.

any age is fine as long as he enjoys it. I brought my gal when she about 1 year old after a few trial at home watching movie such as Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and Marry Popping.

Little kids will pay attention for a while then they will drift off, so maybe like 3 or 4

I found that with my daughter when she could sit at home an watch a full length disney movie without getting bored it was time to take her to a movie.
