my sympathy goes to you, i do this, grow my hair then on a whim cut it all off, and people dont understand do they? they think you're being overdramatical, but, when you think about it, very long hair has been with you for probably about 7 years, if you had a friend who was with you 24/7, all day everyday, and never left your side, if they suddenly went away, you'd be sad!! you get used to it being there, you've had so many years of looking in the mirror and seeing your face with your hair, and its comforting knowing thats what you'll always see, so all of a sudden this is a shock!

when i first cut all my hair off (it went from being way past my waist to up above my shoulders) i refused to go to school for a week and for about 2 months only wore sweaters with hoods so i could hide my missing locks... i didnt like seeing it wasnt there.

so at first i didnt cope very well at first, but what helped me was being more adventurous with it, and actually looking at it and getting used to seeing that hair on my head... i dyed it and styled it and put different grips and hair bands in it all the time, tell yourself while it grows out you can have fun with it and have loads of different styles while it grows out. by some nice hair things and treat for your hair like luxury conditioners and stuff. the worst thing you can do is keep being mad or dissapointed in yourself for cutting it, the sooner you let those feelings go, the sooner you will come to terms with this. we all do silly things that are rash and make us think "Oh i really wish i hadn't..." but your hair will grow back, you haven't done anything that cant be fixed, yeah it might take a while but you'll be suprised how fast it grows really, day by day it may seem to be taking forever but after its shock factor has lessend, a few months on you'll probably be amazed at how much longer its got. time passes, and all hair needs to grow is time, and most of us have plenty of time. just dont beat yourself up, whats done is done, i bet it looks nice, i bet most people are telling you that and are seeming like they dont understand how youre feeling. but given time you'll be fine, and given time you'll hair will have grown.

in the mean time, if being brave with your hair and just going for it while it grows out (put a nice dye on it? practise new styles etc) then maybe look into hair extentions or like others have said, a wig.

    good luck

I did the Locks of Love where they cut like sixteen inches off your hair to donate for making wigs for people going through cancer treatment and the woman kept messing up so my hair turned out to be about three inches shorter than it should've been. Then she decided to layer my hair, started to, decided it was too short to style it that way, and cut what she had done off. I couldn't even put my hair up in a ponytail for like a month after it. I was so embarassed. I must've looked like a guy!

At least it's not like that, right?

Be patient! I have done the same "mistake" myself in the past and i know EXACTLY how you feel! The first days-few weeks- are the hardest, because you're not used to it yet! In a few weeks things will be better. You can also find new ways to do your hair, which will probably make you look even better than before!

I was sad for a little while when I got all my hair chopped off, but I have since embraced my new style and love it more than long hair. Just remember, it will grow back.

I'm going to cut off 9" for locks of love this weekend. It will grow back, but now you know that you don't like it, and you can try other stuff.

  • I cut about 14 inches of my hair. It sucked. Hopefully, you look better with short hair than I did.

It's better than losing eight inches of leg from a landmine. At least I heard.

I'm sorry to say this, but it's just hair. Just keep reminding yourself that things change and you love your new look.
