    Electricity is wasted on youth.

And I'm sure some nubbin will waste no time in marketing CD's loaded with the 100 greatest "Vroom Vroom" sounds plus an audio broadcasting system so they can piss the senior citizens around them off.

We own an electric car and love it. My husband uses it everyday to drive back and forth to work and for neighborhood driving. It saves us a lot of money on gas.

However, they are not for everyone. The top speed of our car is 40mph and range is significantly affected by the weight of passangers and cargo and by outdoor temperature.

Also, running the heater (not so much the radio) drains the batteries very quickly. I would assume that A/C would also drain the batteries.

You need a place to charge the car. It takes us anywhere from 4 to 8 hours depending on a host of factors.

It is completely silent, which is kinda cool. We've gotten strange looks and double takes, and have to be careful around pedestrians.

Tesla and Chevy say that their cars are going to get fantastic mileage, and they're probably going to come kitted out with all kinds of ammenities. Depending on battery technology, they may be able to make it work, but it won't come cheap.

If you are in the market for an affordable electric car for neighborhood driving, there are a number of companies to choose from.

We chose a Miles car, because it is a real car. It cost less than $15k and there are deals to be found.

We almost bought a Zap Xebra, but due to it's three wheel configuration, it is classified as a motorcycle and needs a motorcycle license here in Ohio. It also would have ment putting helmets on our kids when they ride in the vehicle. So be careful to find out what the laws are where you live when you are shopping for your electric vehicle.

At my age now I don't take road trips anymore unless I go with my friend. Then we take her car because it has cruise control and mine doesn't. I would love to have a little electric car for the little bit of driving I do now, but the cost is way to expensive. I've been looking at them for quite some time now. Maybe I should get a motor scooter with a basket for groceries. Where I live I could use it about 8 months out of the year.

I doubt it will sell over here in America unless the price is lowered or the government offers us some type of a tax allowance for trading in our gas powered vehicles. I'm 55 & I don't like "quiet" cars one little bit!

That particular car won't sell well. Last year it cost 100,000 dollars. However the cheaper electric ones will if gas prices go back up.

I don't really think so.They will still have to burn fuel to make electricity. The same nut cases don't want nukes or coal burning and the battery's cost too much. I think maybe someday but not now.

No I think it will be 'a flash in the pan'. Weighing all things up it isn't really going to help the environment.

If it gets the volt, i'm staying neutral about it. Would you want one outside your ohm?
