Is usury a sin if so then, why?

It seems that much of our banking system is based on usury. Like credit cards, mortgages, and the stock market.

    Some religions (Islam) consider interest immoral. There are lending institutions created to get around the problem with charging interest.

    Yes, according to Old Testament, New Testament and even Islamic law...

    Politicians use religion for their own means to stir up resentment against other people to get elected and ignore rules against usury because that's not to the liking of big corporations, who are their real bosses.

    Banking systems are not based on religious views.
