How to keep bay horse from bleaching out?

I have a dark bay horse that I'd like to keep dark bay :P

I don't really want to use Black-as-Knight or any other product as it's expensive and I hear paprika is not good for them anyway. I also plan on showing this summer.

What kind of blanket could I use that would actually work? I was told that if I just use a blanket his neck will still bleach out so that would just look kinda dumb.. lol

Any suggestions? :-)

get a fly sheet for hot weather and get one with a neck. their is a TON out there. all you need to do is go on a horse website and search "fly sheets" my personal favorite is the Amigo bug buster. i have 5 horses showing every week in season and i want them to be able to go out so i got them all amigo bug busters. not one of them has gotten a rub, they fit great, keep them cool, keep bugs off them and keep their coats nice and dark. here is a link....

for cooler weather get a sheet/blanket w/e and get a hood.

i'm shocked you have never seen a hood for blankets or flysheets. nthats crazy to me! anyone that has a horse magazine has been sure to see one!!!

    anyway, good luck!!

there is alot alot cheaper one but they may rub etc.

just turn him out really early in the morning, or later on in the evening. this is what we did for my liver chestnut when we need to keep his dark coloring nice and un-sunburnt for shows
