What benefits could you find in having a matriarchal (woman run) society?

I'm writing a story about Goddesses and wonder if, during prehistory, women were able to maintain "rule" from that point in time to modern day; how would women running our societies changed the course of history.

I suspect that we would have a much gentler world, more children running around, more things growing, fewer roads, less industry. More of an agrarian society. The earth would likely be in better shape. less polluted. More of a family culture directed towards renewal and understanding and respect for one another.

I'm making the assumption - and I could be wrong - that you're wondering how the world would be different *today* if women had run things all along.

Wars might not have lasted as long, because women wouldn't want their children harmed and would have a vested interest in negotiating the end of a war. There may have been a greater emphasis on caring for and protecting all the children in the community and not just your own. Perhaps the social structure would have been more like a commune, or more tightly-knit communities than we have now.

Or there may have been no difference at all. Who can say? Whatever your imagination points to wouldn't be wrong. I'm not sure that women would have changed the course of history except for a greater emphasis on childbearing and child-rearing.

most historians now agree there was not a matriarchy in prehistory, allot of people are ignoring that fact for some reason though. But to answer your question..the benefits would be a less violent society, maybe a less stressful one as well, where cooperation and family are put above Competition and the job.

Nothing. It has been shown that politicians have higher levels of testosterone, even the women, than the average man. There would still be wars. And you are forgetting all the Queen's Britain has had, they built an empire under one.

Sure, the benefits would be :

    1. NO wars, whatsoever. All conflicts will be resolved in the ladies washrooms.

    2. New research into how men can be impregnated/sent to the labor room.

    3. Equality in pay - which means ALL men will be stay-at-homes, while ALL women will be out there working while men convalesce at home

    4. No 'glass-ceilings'. Just 'concrete-ceilings' - for men who even dare to step out of their homes.

    5. Entire pharmacies filled with products for women, while men should be content with having one aisle for 'mens-products'

    6. No classic and contemporary toilet seats. All will be replaced with automated seats to adapt to who's sitting on them.

    7. Women's President !! Yay !

    8. Electronic gadgets to shrink 'abusive ex'es' to 2 "

murphdog, modern feminism worships the job and has no respect for family. also looking at the divorce courts, rwanda, falklands and serbia there is no reason to believe that a matriarchy would be peaceful.

    The benefits are countless

    None whatsoever.

You'd have all the same problems and worse because I'd like to think men wouldn't take it lying down.

I don't see how you think inequality could solve anything.
