Good place to start a free blog?
I want to write a blog about route 66. I'm not familiar with blogging whatsoever other than I know that they exist. I'm hoping I could blog on some popular website that would increase my chances of having my blog seen.
I think I heard something about wordpress but is that a good place to blog and get some exposure?
Any ideas/suggestions? On either who to go with or how to start :D
TY!

A blog is a type of web site, commonly used an online journal of a person's thoughts. This perspective is expressed with text, video, music, photos, and etc. People typically read blogs out of curiosity about other people's lives and opinions. The specific definition of a blog is still up for debate - as it has more uses than just an online diary. See these posts:

If you are interested in starting a blog, then investigate and register with one of the following developer-hosted blogging services. After that, you can create blog entries about most topics:
Free blogging services:
Blogger/Blogspot (http://blogger.com/ ), Wordpress (http://wordpress.com/ ), Livejournal (http://livejournal.com/ ), Vox (http://vox.com/ ), Typepad (http://typepad.com/ ), Travelpod (http://www.travelpod.com/ ), Tumblr (http://www.tumblr.com/ )
Free social-networking services with blogging capabilities:
MySpace (http://myspace.com/ ), Facebook (http://facebook.com/ ), Multiply (http://multiply.com/ ), Xanga (http://xanga.com/ ), Windows Live Spaces (http://spaces.live.com/ )
However, whether someone sees your blog depends less on the service used, and more on how much effort you put into promoting it. See these sites for general blogging tips (particularly regarding the promotion aspect):

YAHOO BLOGGING:
1) I use Yahoo! 360 (http://360.yahoo.com/kee_y360 ), which is a social-networking service that features a blog. Since you have a Yahoo ID you can create a 360 space as well. It is not well-supported though, but the blogging components of 360 will be migrated to the Yahoo! Profile soon (http://profiles.yahoo.com/ ).
Go to http://360.yahoo.com/ . Click the "Get Started" on the far right section of that page. After completing the activation process, click the "Yahoo! 360 Home" link on the upper right corner of that page or the 360 main page to enter the space. For more details on how to set up elements of your 360 space, see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/ .
Keep in mind that 360 is a beta service, so there are many bugs. If you have problems, check the Answers area or click on my avatar and scroll down to click on my "Starred Questions" tab.

2) There is also Yahoo! Shine, which is a blogging service geared toward women. See http://shine.yahoo.com/page/about/ for details.
Go to http://shine.yahoo.com/ . See the right side of the page and click on the "My Blog" link under your personalized area. There are "Manage My Blog" and "Write New Post" links at the top left of that page.
