People, why would you not support the Fair Tax?

I have not heard anyone give a good answer to this question. I believe the Fair Tax will provide incentive for all in America to prosper and produce more in this country. Please post your thoughts.

To Steven J...that's a bold statement considering Comrade Obama's cabinet choices.

To answer your question...Liberals will never support the fair tax, because in the warped liberal mind things are only "fair" when they benefit liberals to the detriment of everyone else.

Realistically, would you want to be the President or Congress that fired every IRS employee. Imagine the severance packages alone not to mention the pension plans. Unemployment is bad enough now...this would only make it worse (unfortunately).

Because it's not actually fair. Or particularly feasible. It's simplistic to the point of being nearly idiotic, would have a strange effect on used goods and create a lot more bartering, and would basically screw our country during the transition and for some time afterward. It seems likely that it would screw up our school funding systems, and necessitate legislation to regulate things currently guided by tax incentives. You say it will provide incentive for America to prosper, but you don't say how, and this seems more naive than realistic.

The current tax system is far from perfect, but at least it's adaptable, customizable, and in an odd way a lot more fair than the fair tax.

    1) Government is a service, just like cable TV. Send me a damn invoice. And better yet, let me choose which froufrou services I want to subscribe to. I'm cool with the Basic service (protect the borders and enforce the Bill of Rights), but they've been doing a real lousy job and we'd be smart to shop for a new vendor.

    2) Congress would go for the Fair Tax, but only provided it was in addition to the existing tax structure. It's amazing how they can do miracles with amendments. It's always easier for them to get rid of our liberties, but they'll never get rid of a tasty tax.

    3) This tax program appears to be a bit too late. Socialist governments don't need tax systems. They already own all the property and money.

    4) Too bad. It's a better system than the monster that is strangling us.

I prefer the FLAT tax, every single one of us paying exactly the same rate. Not the same dollar amount, the same rate.

If we all paid the same rate, with no exceptions and no exemptions, the class war would come to an end.

And the class war is what is keeping the two party system alive in America.

The FAIR tax has as it's foundation a "prebate". This is nothing OTHER than welfare. And making welfare a part of our tax code is making class warfare a part of our tax code.

There are several reasons not to support the FairTax:

    1. As an IRS employee, I would lose my job.

    2. As a tax lawyer, I would lose my job.

    3. As a tax lobbyist in Washington, D.C., I would lose my job.

    4. As an H&R Block employee, I would lose my job.

    5. As a member of Congress on the left side of the aisle, I would lose political power.

    6. As a CPA who helps clients prepare their tax returns, I would have to concentrate on helping clients make money.

    7. As a lobbyist with the National Association of Realtors whose sole reason for being is maintaining the mortgage interest deduction, I would lose my job. No income tax, no mortgage interest deduction.

well, i would support it just to get rid of the irs, but honestly i believe we should just get rid of the irs/income tax period and not replace it with anything. and if we cut back on the ridiculous gov spending, social welfare programs, and get out of foreign entanglements that cost us over a trillion dollars a year, we would still have plenty of $ to pay for everything. people forget about all of the other taxes we pay, for example, someone will say, if we dont have a major tax on income or consumption (flat tax) how will we pay for the roads to be built? we already pay for our roads everytime we pump gas, thats what that tax goes to. and our school system (which we should get the gov out of anyway considering they have destroyed it) well that gets paid for thru your property taxes. i mean, heres a list of some of the taxes we pay:

    Accounts Receivable Tax

    Building Permit Tax

    Capital Gains Tax

    CDL license Tax

    Cigarette Tax

    Court Fines (indirect taxes)

    Dog License Tax

    Federal Income Tax

    Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA)

    Fishing License Tax

    Food License Tax

    Fuel permit tax

Gasoline Tax (42 cents per gallon)

    Hunting License Tax

Inheritance Tax Interest expense (tax on the money)

Inventory tax IRS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax)

IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax)

    Liquor Tax

    Local Income Tax

    Luxury Taxes

    Marriage License Tax

    Medicare Tax

    Property Tax

    Real Estate Tax

    Septic Permit Tax

    Service Charge Taxes

    Social Security Tax

    Road Usage Taxes (Truckers)

    Sales Taxes

    Recreational Vehicle Tax

    Road Toll Booth Taxes

    School Tax

    State Income Tax

    State Unemployment Tax (SUTA)

    Telephone federal excise tax

Telephone federal universal service fee tax

Telephone federal, state and local surcharge taxes

    Telephone minimum usage surcharge tax

Telephone recurring and non-recurring charges tax

    Telephone state and local tax

    Telephone usage charge tax

    Toll Bridge Taxes

    Toll Tunnel Taxes

    Traffic Fines (indirect taxation)

    Trailer registration tax

    Utility Taxes

    Vehicle License Registration Tax

    Vehicle Sales Tax

    Watercraft registration Tax

    Well Permit Tax

    Workers Compensation Tax

so, i just dont see why we need a major tax at all, we are practically taxed to death! the more money we give to the gov, the less we have, but even more important, when we happily give our money to the gov in the form of taxation, that gives them more power over us.

You haven't heard a good answer because there isn't one. It is the only way for all Americans to truly have a chance to prosper.
