Did I miss something? When did Jay Cutler win NFL MVP honors?

When did Jay Cutler win NFL MVP honors? I have been continually hearing people heap praise on Cutler for being 'established' as one of the league's best QB's. I don't think that he's established all that much. It's true that the Broncos aren't that great, but I haven't seen Cutler win anything. Cutler's most winning season was last year at 8 -8. His play has been inconsistent. He threw for a lot of yards in the leagues worst division. If Cutler was on my team I'd certainly at least listen if someone was dealing an 11-5 QB. Cutler is delusional.

I’m not saying Cutler is a bad QB because he’s not. He through for +4500 yards last season, but let’s not make him out to be untouchable. He still has a lot to prove.

Tony Romo (28) 94.7 2004-2008 dal

4. Kurt Warner (37) 93.8 1998-2008 3TM

5. Tom Brady (31) 92.9 2000-2008 nwe

7. Joe Montana+ 92.3 1979-1994 2TM

8. Chad Pennington (32) 90.6 2000-2008 2TM

9. Drew Brees (29) 89.4 2001-2008 2TM

Ben Roethlisberger (26) 89.4 2004-2008 pit

12. Carson Palmer (29) 88.9 2004-2008 cin

13. Jeff Garcia (38) 87.5 1999-2008 5TM

14. Jay Cutler (25) 87.1 2006-2008 den

Update:

The image that comes to mind of Cutler is the football just falling out of his hand without being touched in that game against San Diego last year.

Update 2:

In the contest of Cassell vs. Cutler their strongest respective assets are their potential. If I were the Broncos with no defense I'd certainly consider Cutler for Cassell, Vrabel, +?. I'd certainly be within my rights to do so.

Update 3:

Cutler is the best QB to hit the market since... Cassell about a month ago.

Warner was a free agent this year although he's not a young hot commodity. Chad Pennington was cut and picked up by Miami last year, and Favre also got dealt last year. Brees was dealt to the Saints a couple years ago. QB's are moving almost every year.

Update 4:

Usually "elite" status as a QB is confered upon winners. The Denver defense wouldn't be on the field so much if Denver could run the ball some. Sole reliance on the passing game usually means losing. If Denver could run Cutler's passing yards would be less.

I'm with you. He's got potential but he's still got a lot to prove. And in my opinion this whole thing (and some past incidents) has raised some attitude and personality questions as well. And to a lot of teams, personality is just as important as talent.

Let's be honest, there are what, maybe 4 or 5 QB's that could be considered "untouchable" in terms a trade playing right now? And even then some of that isn't purely about talent. It also has to do with how well they fit with their team, both in terms of the offensive scheme and a personality stand point. If they were on a different team or in a different type of offense, the story might be different. While loyalty to good players is important, there has to be a balance between that and what's best for the team in the long run.

So, for Denver to listen to offers, isn't unbelievable to me. Cutler has potential but he hasn't earned "untouchable" status, not even close.

Jay Cutler is a very good QB and is borderline elite. It just doesn't show very much in his win/loss record because the Broncos have had a horrible defense in recent years. Most Bronco games were lost because of defense, not offense.

Thumbs up to those who agree.

The kid made the Pro Bowl in his third year as a starter, that's pretty impressive. Granted the Bears might have given up a little more than he's worth, he could still be something real special.

I'll have you know that Jay Cutler won MVP honors after the 1932, 1954, and 1972 seasons.

He's no NFL MVP...but he IS the best QB to hit the market in a long time.

Ok let me rephrase then: He's the first young franchise type QB to hit the market in a long time.
