Fired after I asked to be put on the books...my recourse?

Live in CA state, worked for nearly 3 mos. helping a business restructure & modernize. They happily took my brilliant ideas and intellectual property and had me hire additional help. I asked to be put on the books, was given paperwork to fill out and was fired over the phone the next day. Do I have any recourse? Even though I agreed to be off the books for a little while? Seriously burned and need help.

Update:

I intend on claiming the income on my taxes & paying what I owe. Any comments on the 'Underground Economy Operations Lead Referral/Complaint Form' ???

Get yourself a lawer. Looks like you may have a case to sue.

No working off the books means you was illegally and an illegal worker has no recourse because the courts will not do anything to hold up an illegal contract

Off the books is illegal (including your side).

Call the IRS but make sure you paid taxes on that "off the books" income in the first place.
