Is this bronchitis/pneumonia/something else? Should I go see a doctor?
It started 5 days ago, when I woke up with postnasal drip (i think it's called) and a sore throat.
The next day, the sore throat went away, but I couldn't breathe through my nose.
The next day, I could breathe through my nose a bit better but I started coughing.
Yesterday, I can breathe through my no-longer-stuffed nose, but I was getting shortness of breath (not being able to breathe in all the way)
Today is about the same as yesterday.
If it helps, I started smoking recently. VERY recently. Like two weeks ago. Since I've started I maybe smoked twenty five of them maximum, so I doubt that's the problem.

Yes. Never second guess your illness when you have symptoms like that. Not going to lecture you about starting to smoke because obviously you've thought it all through. Just one word of caution...I smoked for 39 years and every day thought about how I thought it was so cool to start and then it was soooo difficult to stop. I am smoke free for 7 years now and really proud of myself. I no longer have bronchitis and pneumonia twice yearly as I used to. In fact I hardly ever get sick. But to actually answer your question....YES, you definately need to see a doctor, get an xray if he prescribes it, maybe take some antibiotics to clear out this infection. Meanwhile, drink lots of fluids and use a vaporizer if you have one. The steam will loosen the mucous from your lungs...also hot steamy showers will be good. Please put down the cigarettes..at least while you are so sick..it's just doesn't make any sense to inhale smoke into your already infected lungs and passages. Best of luck.

First, quit smoking while you still can, before the addiction sets in. Smoking causes post nasal drip, coughs, sore throats, sinus infections (sometimes with blood and fever), and lung cancer, COPD, Asthma, chronic bronchitis and eventual death. It also causes stuffy noses and you get more colds because it affects your immune system. I'll bet if you quit right now, you will get better. I did! I have not been sick with upper respiratory things for 8 years now. I used to get sick once a month.

Well if your a new smoker, there are effects if your not used to it. The smoke is causing your breathing tube to be inflamed. You might have bronchitis. You need to go to the doctor and get yourself checked out. I would stop smoking to.
