New taxes that will affect you?

First of all, I'm not a smoker. With that being said do you think that the government is going to continue taking away or rights? Since the recent cigarette tax, I was wondering when the government was going to start putting a tax on the cheese burger (junk food) because it causes diabetes and cost taxpayers billions of dollars a year in health care costs? I know it sounds kind of extreme but actually in New York a tax is being put on sugary drinks.

What are your thoughts?

Once we have Socialized medicine you will see fast food, junk food, food with high fat content, and high sugar content either out lawed or taxed heavily.

Obama's proposed cap and trade tax will increase everone's utility costs by about 25%.

Obama's so called tax cut is only going to be in place for two years and the Bush tax cuts expire next year.

    I know what ya mean

obama telling the AIG prez. "to step down" AKA fire him

and the government buying up business, even creating a new wing for the government to pay for these businesses w/ tax payer's money.

But soon enough people are gonna wise up to this and the government is gonna be in HOT water. And obama's gonna be remembered in the same spite and hate as Nixon. Which is sad b/c if obama had a bit more experience and served in the army for a bit I think he would be a really good prez.

He just wasn't ready, got in there, and was walked all over by the guys that have been in government for a long time.

How is voluntarily smoking cigarettes "taking away your rights"?

    I'm curious.

And yes, I think we should sin tax items which do irreparable harm to our bodies. Especially considering all the people without health insurance who use/consume these items then show up needing health care on the taxpayer dime.

Why should you or I pay for someone else's bad decision?

In the UK we are taxed to the hilt on tobacco products, yet we are not allowed to smoke them anywhere,

Obama is just like Blair, a false demagogue who will increase controls in the name of "freedom".

Be warned! Britain has had this for years. Dig out ol'Abe Lincoln, you Yanks, and save your country from Blairism!

personally I don't care abut the tax on cigs but, what's next? Arnold just raised our sales tax "temporarily" - like I really believe that once they get their greedy hands on our money they will lower it!

We've already had tax on junk food for years. The pinheads are taxing us to death and we get nothing in return!

    Source(s): no pinheads!

There is a huge power shift from the American people to the new world order. Taxing is only one vehicle. This tax will only hurt the poor, since more poor people smoke than rich.

Either Obama lied already, after promising no tax increases of any type for those making under $250,000 or only people making over $250,000 smoke.
