Why do players throw the ball in the order they do after a strikeout?

After a strikeout, the catcher throws to 3rd, who throws to short, who throws to 2nd, who throws back to 3rd, who throws back to the pitcher. One, why is it done this way, and two, why is the first baseman left out? Seems like I've heard an answer to this, but it's been too long.

It's not really a show-off thing, and it's not at all to ensure there are no players on base. That can be done by using two eyes.

    Here's why:

    1. It's a classic tradition

    2. It keeps the infielders' arms "loose"

    3. It makes sure everybody is paying attention and in the game

The process is called Around the Horn. A lot of teams have different ways of doing this, here's another common one:

Catcher to third to second to short to first

That's probably the most common type of around the horn, but the one you mentioned is also popular.

They sometimes don't throw it to the first baseman because of again, tradition, and the fact that he doesn't really throw the ball in the game, so he doesn't need to get loose after every strikeout.

Its an old tradition that's been done forever. It keeps the infielders arms "loose". In theory, the first baseman doesn't have to throw as often as the other infielders. That's why they throw it around the horn. Also, after the third baseman throws to short, he usually starts to walk towards the pitcher. When he gets the ball back, he hands it, or a short toss (underhanded) to the pitcher.

The stats communicate for themselves............ 20 strikeouts in one 9 inning recreation has purely handed off 4 situations (two times via roger clemens) Kerry wood and Randy Johnson are the different 2. The final time it got here approximately replaced into in 2001. there have been 18 respectable acceptable video games and 6 greater that have been the two decrease than 9 innings (24 outs relatively of 27 because of the fact he did no longer could pitch the backside of the ninth on a street recreation) or because of the fact it replaced into broken up in greater immings.

To keep the infielders loose. The first baseman hardly has to make any throws. Also the reason it goes back to the third baseman is that he is the one that is close to the pitcher and has the shortest route back to his position

1.It shows off in front of the other team like we just got you out punk.

2.It ensures no runners are left on base.

3.It keeps other players involved in the game and ready.
