What happened to all the ammo?

Finally decided to buy a handgun because protecting myself with a sword was no longer working. Got a nice Springfield XD 45ACP and everything and couldn't wait to try it out at the range. But lord and behold when I tried to buy a box of ammo, there isn't one to be found...anywhere in the whole city. WTF is going on?

    It's part of the CHANGE.

51% of the American people were stupid enough to vote Obama in, but 49% is smart enough to know he's got an agenda that goes against the Constitution. That 49% is buying ammo.

I'm just going to copy and paste what I said last time someone asked this question since I don't see the point of typing it out again.

    Q. Why is ammunition so hard to find now?

    A. It basically boils down to gun owners being scared about potential new laws/restrictions and ammunition companies being worried about new laws which will cost them lots of money.

Gun owners are worried congress will pass new, extremely restrictive new gun and ammunition laws and taxes. As a result they've been on a buying spree since last fall. That has radically increased demand for guns and ammunition.

Normally ammunition companies would meet this increase in demand by increasing production either by running additional shifts or expanding production lines. However they're currently running existing production lines at maximum capacity since demand is extremely high and since the normal slack caused by military surplus ammunition (.223, 9mm, .308, etc...) is gone due to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. While they could expand their production facilities to meed demand, that would cost lots of money and they're not going to do that. They won't expand their production facilities because worried about new laws/regulations which would raise production costs and prevent them from being able to pay off the money they'd have to borrow to expand their production lines.

The long and short of it is that until we see what's going to happen concerning changes in gun laws, ammunition scarcity is going to remain a real problem because shooters won't stop buying and companies won't risk expanding production.

As far as finding ammunition the only thing you can do is order online (which may result in you being put on a waiting list) or keep checking the stores and hope you get lucky.

You can blame that on Obama. People are buying ammo like its out of style. Reloading primers and powder is getting hard to find also. Obama is trying to make it harder to buy things like that. Guess he don't believe in the 2nd amendment!

It's obama, don't let the posers tell you any different, if it were caused by the war we would have had shortages for the last 8 years! Actually the fighting has significantly decreased in Iraq...

The NRA and the makers and distributors have banded together to create this drought of ammo. They figure that they (the NRA) warned us that Obama would be bad, so they have to fulfill their own prophesy! They told their members to make a "run" on ammo to deplete the on-hand stocks, and then got the distributors to hold back the ammo to create the drought.

Why would the distributors do that? To drive up the price.

They did the exact same thing in 92-93 when Bill Clinton was elected. A box of 38 special reloads went from $4.50 a box to $7.00.

I was working at the gun store at the time, and we all agreed that the NRA sucks for representing ammo makers instead of members. That's when I resigned.

Obama is one reason. The other is the military - we have so many soldiers all over the world and 9mm is scarce as hell. .45 is the next most used round.

Ammo seems back to being well stocked where I live, plenty of 9mm, .45 ACP, .223, .22LR for all.

obama. Any anyone whom brings up any other reason at all including the economy is lying to you.
