  • What's a good notebook for HD movies?

I have a Dell XPS M140 that is finally about to crap out. I was looking to get a notebook computer instead of a laptop because i want long battery and light weight. The only thing I need is to play HD movies and do some minor editing... Any recommendations? What should I look for?

    Thanks!

  • Best way to paint MDF?

I put together a display case made of MDF and now I'd like to paint it. It's got lots of corners and crevices so I'd prefer to use an aerosol.

Can I use some aerosol primer like Rustoleum then any regular spray paint? Thanks!

  • What type of plants would work best?

I have a wooded area on my property with TONS of poison ivy. I've sprayed it and cut back a lot of it, but it keeps coming back. I was wondering, what plants could I put to help choke out the poison ivy?

Pretty is preferable, but hardy is most important. It's a wooded area, lots of cover, medium to low sunlight, lots of cedar trees, lots of old branches and fallen wood. I'm in Maryland so we get all four seasons. Suggestions?

  • What are good simultaneous player games for Wii?

Looking for some good games for me and some friends to play. LOVE new Super Mario Bros and having fun with Mario Kart. Have Raving Rabbits, but looking for gaves with more of a storyline, like Super Mario Bros. Any suggestions?

  • Lawn care regimen suggestions?

Other than mowing the lawn, I am totally new to any type of lawn care. Crab grass, clover, bermuda, it's all the same to me.

My parents asked me to cultivate an immaculate lawn for them but not sure how to get started. This is what I have so far... Small yard, about 1/8 acre, mostly bermuda grass with tons of clover and something that looks like carpetweed. Lawn is flat, full sun, good drainage, zero foot traffic.

I don't have a preference on type of grass, just all blades and as few weeds as possible. What do I do? Overseed? Herbicide the whole thing? How often to water?

  • Just installed new V&H pipes, chopping sound?

I just put some Vance and Hines on my 96' Nighthawk 750. No, I didn't rejet YET, but will when I get some time to do it.

Anyway, install went fine, gaskets looked good, but when I started up it sounded choppy from the FRONT of the engine and I felt puffs of air coming from the second pipe (from the throttle side) where it connects to the block. I figured it was just misaligned, so I loosened it all up and readjusted. I retightened, but STILL had same issue.

Did I do it wrong? Is it still misaligned or do I need new gaskets? Also, what's the rule of thumb for tightening the bolts? Hand tighten only, correct?

    Thanks!

  • Do you HAVE to rejet after installing new pipes?

I just ordered some Vance & Hines 4-1 pipes for my '96 Nighthawk 750, mainly for better sound and a lose some weight. I know it's recommended to rejet the carbs, but is it absolutely necessary?

  • Motion sensor light stays on all the time?

I installed a motion sensing light in my horse barn on the inside, with the sensor pointing straight down so when the wife walks in at night, she can see where she's going.

Problem is, the light stays on all the time, regardless of light/dark. I noticed that instead of turning off, the lights dim, but don't turn off completely. When I walk under the light and trip the sensor, the light gets to full brightness again.

    Here is my set up....

I have a 14-2 power wire coming in, black, white, bare ground.

The lights (2) each have one black and one white wire.

The motion sensor itself has a black, a white, and a red wire.

All the white wires are connected, the 14-2, motion sensor and the 2 lights.

The black wire from the motion sensor is hooked up to the 14-2 black wire.

The black wires from the lights are connected to the red wire from the motion sensor.

What's wrong with this set up?

  • How much bark does a tree need to survive?

My bastard horses decided it would be fun to chew the bark of my trees. Some have as much as 80% gone, most only about 30% gone. I cannot salvage the bark, they ate it.

  • LCD flat screen stays blank on power up. What's wrong with it?

I have a 42" LG LCD that's about 4 years old now. Every now and then, when I turn it on the screen stays completely blank. I can hear sound, but the screen never comes on. I'll turn it off and on a few times then eventually it will work normally.

It's had this problem for years but it seems to be getting more frequent. Any ideas what it could be?

  • Mower engine won't crank?

I have a 15hp B&S electric start engine on a pull behind mower. Ran fine all summer, then let it sit for about the past two months. I took it in to properly (albeit late) winterize it, but it won't crank even a little. I turn the key and it makes a feeble "thunk" and then nothing. The thunk is coming from the part right next to the battery, not the starter nor the engine itself. The battery is fully charged I even tried to jump start it with my car but it wouldn't budge. The last time it ran, the gas was good, the oil was full and clean, the plug is new this season... The only abuse I did give it was keeping it outside in the elements for the past three months. I made a lean-to to store it under, but the missus thought it would be better to store fence posts there and left it outside... Yes, I am PO'd about that, but she is divorce-caliber stubborn and I didn't argue.

    Any ideas?

  • Nighthawk 750, white smoke, water from exhaust?

I'm prepping my 750 for the winter and noticed that last couple times I started it, white smoke was pouring from the exhaust and I noticed some water dripping from the pipes. Not a lot, but enough for a steady drip. Once it warms up, nothing drips and the smoke only comes when I rev the engine hard. I don't notice any loss of power and it idles just fine, but could anyone tell me what this is?

FYI, it is garage kept, but it's still COLD in the garage.... Like 40 degrees.

  • What distance can you realistically shoot with iron sights?

I know I know, irons are as accurate as the shooter, but often my irons are bigger than the target. What distance could you expect to get 6" groups with plain irons? I'm thinking specifically about the AR and M1A type rifles.

  • Is this a Craigslist scam?

I already did a seach but can't find any similar to this...

I am selling a drill on CL and have gotten two replies so far from different addresses, but when I hit "Reply," the same address appears in the "To" line:

    ptrcr.ile.y at gmail.

    What gives?

  • Knowledgable Gun owners... Which gun to get? Beretta or Hi-Power?

Ok I lied a little... Not a Browning HP, but an FEG, a decent HP clone.

Found a couple deals on both... Could get either one for about $400. The FEG seems in decent shape and comes with one mag. The Beretta 92fs shows a good deal of holster wear, but otherwise sound, comes with 4 mags.

Now, I would be getting one or the other for enthusiast reasons, not how it feels or to carry or anything. I hear the High Power style guns are (in the words of another Y!A user) to the 9mm what the 1911 is to the .45, so I'd love to have one in the safe and occasionally shoot around. On the same token, the 92fs is really a beautiful pistol albeit big for a 9mm. Just seems like another classic to own.

    Thoughts?

  • How many is too many guns?

I keep finding great deals on pistols and have a collection I'm pretty proud of... Right now eyeballing a nice Beretta 92fs for a few hundred bucks. However, I only make it to the range once or twice a month these days, so now it's gotten to the point where I can't remember the last time I shot many of my pistols and even longer since some of my rifles.

At what point is it time to stop?

  • What are the differences between Laptops and Notebooks?

I have a Dell M140 that's about to die. I'm really liking the compactness of the notebook computers, but heard they aren't as powerful as full blown laptops. Can anyone explain the difference between the two? I use my computer mainly for browsing the internet.

  • Experience with 9mm 1911 pistols?

Finally got the missus to enjoy shooting a bit more. She doesn't like the recoil of the .40, and prefers 9mm. She hates the triggers on my Glocks and my Sigs. She does however like the trigger on the Kimber. I want to get her a gun that she will really enjoy shooting and she'd be 100% comfortable shooting if an intruder came around and I wasn't there.

For those reasons, I'm pretty settled on a 1911 in 9mm. Can anyone give input to these? How light is the recoil? Are they generally accurate? Reliable? I'm probably going to get a Kimber or STI.
