Setting up a Wireless Network?

Just a quick question - I've set-up a wireless home network before:

My set-up was:

Modem > Wireless Router hooked up to a Desktop > then wireless via my laptop.

Now I want to set up a wireless network, without the desktop, so is all I need just the wireless router now?

i.e. I set up the router while wired to my laptop, unplug it, then just turn it on and I can pick up the signal from my laptop (which has a built-in wireless receiver?

Just a bit confused if I need extra hardware, since my router is no longer wired to a desktop..?

Thanks.

That depends on your setup. If the router itself supports WLAN then there is no need for the desktop to be connected to the router. If the router doesn't support WLAN and you actually access the network using the desktop PC (ad hoc WLAN between the desktop and the notebook) then of course you still need the desktop.

You don't need the desktop to be connected, the way you described it will work fine
