baggy acrylic knit wear?

my knit wear has gone baggy and seems to have gotten larger, I machine wash on gentle in cold water. How can I shrink them a bit, I have tried putting them in the tumble drier but if anything this has made them worse

As the other answerer said, acrylic will not shrink, and as you have discovered, it actually stretches. The only thing you can do, if you really like these items, is to take them to an alterationist and get them to take in the side seams. The best way to clean them in future is to hand wash and lay them flat to dry on a towel.

Unfortunately, acrylic fibers do not shrink, so you will be unable shrink the stretched knit wear. However, you can try to tighten the weave by washing in hot water, and dry flat. Although this may be a temporary fix, you can still wear your clothing
