Do tattoo artists really want pictures?

I just had a tattoo done two weeks ago. It was a custom drawn piece that took about 4 1/2 hrs to do. It's got lots of detail & color, and the artist seemed really happy with it when finished. He asked me to come back after it healed so he could get pictures. But when I mentioned this to others, they say that all the artists say that about everything. So, my question is this....does he really want pictures or do they just say that? I don't want to go back in there and bother him if he's really not interested. Any tattoo artists opinions would be especially appreciated. :o)

If its something unique like it sounds then I would go back for one they dont usually all say that and also they build portfolios and any pics that show their levels of work can get them more business in the long run. He or she seems to be proud of what they did so let them take a pic of it.

I have had all my tattoos photographed. The artists put it in their portfolio to show prospective clients the work they have done...especially if it was really detailed and gorgeous! My tattoo artist however took the picture right after finishing the tattoo, might be because I don't bleed so it looked healed already (because it hadn't gotten to the nice and scabby stage yet! lol)

If he asked for a picture he is definitely proud or his work and wants to show it off. You should go and let him take one so he can put it in his portfolio and show it to his other customers.

It's considered pretty rude to copy someone's tattoo.

they usually want healed pictures of their work for portfolios and as a record of the work they've done. i'd go back i'm sure he's be more than happy to see how it's healed

It's common practice. They either put it on a website, in the shop, or in thier portfolio. If it wass really nice or pretty or complex, the for sure go back in.

they use the pics to show how good the work they do it they put it in their profile. i would stop in after a month so it is healed make sure its not dry (put some lotion on it) and go back and ask if he wants to check it out and get some pics
