Where are Satellite dishes typically installed if you live in KS or MO?

I had Directv install a dish at my newly rented home. They installed the dish on the side of the house at ground level along with a box and more than 9 cables running in all directions. When I called to complain, they said they typically do not do roof installations any longer due to high winds and roof leaks. However, this home is only two years old and now looks cheesy as hell. They've definitely lowered the resale value and now I'll probably be sued by the homeowners.

I hate to SAY this, in a way, but KS and MO should be no different that any other state! The DISH needs an unobstructed 'VIEW' of the satellite! LAST time 'I" was in KANSAS CITY (the one that goes across the boundry between the two states), it was pretty much FLAT LAND... not a lot of HILLS, and VALLEYS, and TALL OAK (or other wise) TREES!

It sounds to 'ME', like the INSTALLER took the EASIEST and FASTEST way to get IN, and OUT, get DONE, and Go Home!

I HOPE that NO ONE was HOME when they DID the installation, because if somone DID give them some kind of 'consent', then you MIGHT be 'stuck'!

I have DISH, but MINE is UP on a TOWER, that I had previously installed for other purposes... I WAS there when they installed it, and I TOLD them where I wanted the dish...

I'm having second thoughts NOW, about having another DISH, or CABLE, installed on another house... I want ONE place (sort of out-of-site) where the coax comes IN, and then 'splits' to where-ever I want it! I have, for the MOST PART, run coax INSIDE the house, and INSIDE the walls of the rooms where I want reception. I can't get to TALK to anyone who will TALK to me about how they 'INTEND' to DO it, IF I decide to DO it! MY thought is that THEY don't CARE!!!

I KNOW that all they want to DO, is poke a hole in the wall, shove a piece of 'coax' through the hole, put a little 'caulk' around it, and tell you that you are 'GOOD-TO-GO'! THEY don't care that it looks like someone ran around the house, 'puking black spaghetti 'at' and 'on' the house!'

BELIEVE me... I UNDERSTAND what you mean when you say "cheesy"! AND, I AGREE! "CHEESY, CHEAP, SHODDY, SHABBY, CRAPPY, INCOMPETANT, HALF-AS_ED, etc.!!!" It LOOKS like someone didn't KNOW how to DO it RIGHT!!! (I f I said MORE, I'd be pissing-off some GOOD people, who are always taking 'hits' for NOT knowing how to DO things...)

The 'second-house' I'm talking about may end-up being Sold, or RENTED. But, I do NOT want black-spaghetti running around it, and if 'I' WAS renting it... "I" would be VERY upset if someone DID that to MY property!!!

That 'stuff' about "high winds and roof leaks" only tells ME that the 'installer' is INCOMPETENT! That's CRAP! I'm on the South Shore of the Great Lake Erie, and we have ALL kinds of HIGH winds, and most dishes ARE mounted on ROOFS! (I'm NOT a personal advocate of roof-mounts, but that is MY choice! It has NOTHING to DO with whether or not a COMPETENT installation is SUITABLE! OR, APPROPRIATE!) If they DO it RIGHT, it's just FINE!!!

I suggest that you CONTINUE to COMPLAIN, LOUD, and LONG... Talk to EACH Supervisor, or your way to the NEXT Supervisor, and start checking on the STATE requirements... GO to the STATE if you have to... and then Go to the FED, if you have to... ! Learn the NAMES before you GO to them, so you can 'drop' a name, and say "Do I have to go talk to 'SO-and-SO', at the 'Office of Thus and Such'?" If they don't show you any RESPECT, then MAKE the NEXT call! START local... your Councilman (or whatever you have)! And, don't give them WEEKS to get back to you! 24 hours, MAX, up to the STATE level -- (Well ... that's MY thought!) You might not get an ANSWER - but you SHOULD have a RESPONSE!

I KNOW... You 'PROBABLY' did this because you were afraid about the new DTV stuff... !!! (RIGHT!!!) And if you didn't HAVE that 'CONVERSION' done... you would be 'left behind'! Or have to go BUY a 'BOX'!??? ( I WON't GO there...)!!! :) ( I know - I can be a little devil at times!)

(Thank goodness you are talking to ME, because I'll be RIGHT behind you...) (Hey... SMILE!!! I've been told to have a GOOD time on here... !!!) (And, it's OK if you call me a little 'cheeky'...!) I can DEAL with THAT! :)

Ok, back to your question... YOUR question... IF, YOU, or 'someone' was THERE, while they RAN the cables... whether or not you SAW what they were DOING, it COULD be interpreted as 'giving them permission'... in which case, you are probably 'screwed'! ( I hate to SAY it that way...) So, I would be NOT giving them 'permission' in EVERY WAY I could think of! ("HE never TOLD me THAT!!!")

I would be 'changing' from a VIXEN Biker to a 'BIKERBITCH', or something along those lines... I don't know... If you need a 'show-of-force'... I'd like to SEE KC again! Last time was a COUPLE of bikes ago - it was a KZ400 back THEN! It would be a lot more comfortable on the Harley!

Just because 'THEY' don't 'TYPICALLY' DO it, doesn't mean it can't, or shouldn't be DONE! It DOES tell ME, that THEY don't KNOW how to DO it CORRECTLY! (And THAT is not YOUR fault!) And, it SOUNDS like they didn't give you any OPTIONS! "I" (if I was YOU) "I" would be BITCHING like a HEN with her NECK on the 'chopping block', KNOWing that she was going into the OVEN, or the STEW pot!!! So, you better be scratchin', and cacklin'!

Good Luck... Let me KNOW who WINS!

The dish can be installed anywhere it can get an unobstructed view of the southern sky.

Dish Network put my dish on the roof. Our whole neighborhood has them on the roof and most are not noticeable. It sounds like this particular installer was more concerned about liability than customer satisfaction. Complain to DirecTV and ask for another installer to reinstall the dish on the roof. Most of the installers are contractors.

The HOA probably can't sue you because a TV antenna / satellite dish is protected under the ODARD law. However, if it looks ugly, you really should be a good neighbor and have it redone.

The dish needs to be pointed south. Some people have them out away from the house or on a deck railing. Rarely will it be installed on the roof. However, that doesn't mean it can't be.

That's the primary complaint about satellite TV--it requires a tacky exterior dish to get reception.
