All the people who said a low number either:
1. Don't place a high value on this kind of intimacy.
2. Have a problem with relationships and or intimacy.
3. Are going to be divorced one day.
Sex cannot be measured in percentage terms, but can be measured in desired frequency studies will show.
Sexual incompatibility is the #1 reason for divorce. About 90% of divorces are due to infidelity.
"Pittman and Wagers offer that 90% of first-time divorces have involved infidelity, mostly during the last year of the marriage"
http://www.psychpage.com/family/mod_couples_thx/di...
I don't think that means people were golfing together.
#2 reason for divorce: Ineffective Communication. In some of the research work I wrote in college, I argue that this is the key. If you're not communicating effectively, you're prob not doing a whole lot of anything else.
#3 reason for divorce: Unstable or lack of finances./ financial issues. Some prior research once showed this as #1, (post WWII) but, especially over the last 15+ years studies have shown otherwise. Finances are important, but not the same level to everyone compared to the above.
One does not have to like the statistics, but that is what they are.

Keep in mind there is a ton of research out there and data will vary including time and method of study. Also keep in mind that sex does not always mean intercourse. Ok, it does. :P I'm gitty today. My stocks rocked. (Actually sex means different things to different people).

I wonder why people keep asking this question. Sex is important in marriage, but not the way you think. It's not important how often or how little you have sex, it's more important that you and your spouse are compatible when it comes to your sexual needs. Please keep in mind there may be a reason in your future when sex will no longer be a part of your life but if you have a strong and loving marriage then it will endure. Look at Christopher Reeves for instance. His wife loved him very much and stayed faithful to him up to the day he died. So sex is only a part of marriage, it doesn't define marriage.

In my opinion, a healthy and satisfying sex life is right at the top of the list when it comes to maintaining a happy and satisfying marriage. It's not just pleasure and lust at all. It's about coming together with my husband in a way that only we share with each other. I find your view of sex to be sad and shallow.

It's important, but it's not just what marriage is based on. 75-80% important. But then again, if both partners are nympho's the percentage could be higher.

I don't know about a percentage, but personally, I don't think it is -THE- most important thing, but it is definitely in the top 3.

I agree with Net Adviser at about 90%, not because of the statistics he mentioned but because a good sex life is the celebration of a good life together, that is where all the communication, trust, support, and connection all come together as love. A good sex life will also relieve tension and stress making the other areas of a good relationship easier.

Sometimes, letting go seems like the easiest thing to do. But think about this: you've invested so much of your time and energy into another person; you've made a solemn promise; and you still know there's love, even if it's hiding underneath the surface. This website will show you how to save a marriage and avoid divorce, even if you're the only one trying https://tr.im/Dl94N

Most therapists would regard a great marriage having Admiration, Respect, Passion and Trust. So, 25%
However, if the trust gets gone, cuz the passion gets shared, it is all in the toilet, isn't it?

100% Sex and sexual acts are important to be because they are the ONLY thing that you can do with just your partner. Anything else you can do with a friend. It's also as close as you could ever possibly be to your partner. They're inside of you!

4,449%.
More important than FOOD!!
Why! Because sex is a mood enhancer. If the sex is fantastic so will everything else be in your life and in your marriage. In my opinion, most fights, divorces, affairs ...it all comes from lack of sex in the relationship.
