When Christ was crucified, when were the 6th and 9th hours?

The bible says that the skies grew dark between the 6th and 9th hours -- what time would that have been? Was a new day started at 0600? Thank you

Yes, the 12 hour system is best approximated at 6 am and 6 pm (though the day night system was calculated from sunset to sunrise).

Thus, the first hour would be 7 am, etc....

Therefore, the 6th hour is 12 noon, and the 9th hour is 3 pm.

You have to remember that this is Jewish calendar/time. 12 noon till 3 pm. Passover lamb was being sacrificed for the Passover Feast, while Jesus hung on the cross and died as our passover lamb. 1Corinthians 5:6-8. God's timing is impeccable

Some may say that it was 6pm and 9pm and others may say that it was an eclipse that happened during the mourning, I am not sure myself and I would suggest that you read the passage again and do a little research to come up with what you feel is the truth.

  • Usually a new day started at sunrise, if I'm not mistaken. So it would most likely be from noon to 3 p.m.

it meant around mid day afternoon time i think. so it would make sense if it started around 0600 when the sun rose.
