Kenmore (Whirlpool) electric washing machine motor quit?
Is this a motor which the brushes can easily be replaced or is it one which needs replaced? The motor did work, but just quit. I've tried repair forums, but they play games with registration or want fees I don't have.
I'm fairly sure. Yesterday the motor worked, but it didn't spin out so I replaced the coupling (total waste of $$) and after replacing the motor zilch.. it won't budge anywhere in the dial and it could be a switch. The biggest problem is my lack of knowing the electrical parts. Mechanical I'm fine with. It did hum, but then stopped humming..
When I first plugged it in when i first got it I had to jiggle a switch to get it to turn on so.. AHA! (Yes, light bulb just clicked on..)LOL Thanks ;)

dammed..I hit submit and got a message the last edit that this question has been deleted then a double post.. Oh well :/
I found a site specializing in these things and we diagnosed it down to the clutch..I hope. It seems I might be able to shim the clutch up with washers.. I hope so, but if not the ol scrap yard is a good place to get parts. They go there all day long and iron is selling for 4 cents a pound.. I think I can handle used parts from there. ;)

Are you sure its the motor? Are the timer and door switches working. If you careful you can connect motor to power and try if you know electricity. There are used motors are rebuilt ones at local shops and all over the net for decent prices.

it sounds to me like a bad switch or a sticking relay.I have no direct expireance with that type of setup.the hum is indicative of the start windings most washers have a centrifugal switch that feeds the start windings until it gets up to speed then it switches to the run windings.that relay(switch) my be the culprit if it has a start capacitor then that may be bad the reason it hummed and then quit is that you tripped the motor overload that keeps from burning your motor up. If I were you I'd have an appliance tech take a look or at least someone who knows motors

We used to have a Whirlpool. So did my parents and my in-laws. All three machines lasted over 10 years. Don't buy a washer/dryer. Buy a separate washing machine and a drier. There are too many things to go wrong with a combo, and on driers the heating element never lasts very long.
