Why can't I wear my contacts anymore?

I've been wearing disposable contacts for years now. I'm not the best about taking them out all the time but have never had any problems. A few weeks ago, my eyes were irritated. I took my contacts out for a few days and then put in new ones. After a few hours my eyes were so itchy I couldn't stand it. I tried re-wetting drops but they don't make a difference. I can't even wear my contacts at all right now. My eyes are irritated the minute I put them in even if I've gone days without wearing them.

I am going to the eye doctor soon but I wondered if anyone might have any thoughts on what is going on.

If you get the answer then let me know! The same thing happens to me now. I didn't have a problem at first but now I have to rotate between glasses and contacts. It could possibly be that it is the time of year, maybe there is more polution in the air or something. An allergen has gotten in somehow. Maybe just need new contacts. I can't come up with a good answer but I know if I leave them in over night now my eyes are so sensetive to the light the next day and watery I can't see.

Yup, I'm having the same thing too. I can't understand why but my eyes are either sore or itchy and it's such a relief to get the contacts out. I don't have a problem that I'm aware of with my eyes I just to have become allergic to them - don't know whether it's a new type of contact material or just the season. Going crazy with it ... & hate wearing glasses :(

i am having the same problem too. It's annoying I tried putting them in this morning and my eye just started itching and burning. Hopefully an optometrist reads this question so we can get the answer.

You may want to ask your doctor about a different brand.
