Don't you hate it when people pretend to like a certain type of music?

This really bugs me. I admit that I'm a grunge fan, and some of my fave bands are Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. However, I don't like L7, Melvins etc. I can admit to that. I can admit that I'm not a 'hardcore' grunge fan, and that I'm more of a mainstream one.

I also enjoy bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Foo Fighters etc.

However, I've come across a lot of people who pretend to like grunge when they've only heard Smells Like Teen Spirit. Likewise, I've also come across people who say that I'm not a 'true' 'grunger' because I don't listen to Melvins or whatever.

IMO, Music is music, and other people or hype shouldn't influence what music you like. Who agrees/disagrees?

F*ck 'em. Plain and simple. I get weird looks and nicknames because of the music I listen to, and I tell you, boy, I love it.

i could say, 'superb, Grasshopper. there is wish for you yet...' the worry with the vast majority of latest track is it is extremely by-fabricated from issues that have long gone earlier. track could be approximately originality, and pushing the envelope, and the unhappy fact is, there is valuable little of that approximately anymore. all of it went **** up with Nirvana, whilst the alternative grew to become the recent mainstream. i've got lost track of the situations i've got theory 'guy, this would not sound 25 or 30 years previous - it sounds sparkling and exciting even on the instant'. decrease back interior the day, it could desire to have appeared like it grow to be from a various planet... according to hazard i could desire to show out i do no longer hate something simply by fact that is modern-day. I hate stuff that is boring and spinoff. i prefer sparkling and exciting and new, and few bands ever manage to supply that...

I disagree because in the end some people will judge you based on what music you like and I want to be associated with the right people. My brain automatically filters out stuff that would make me look different than the image I am trying to promote. However I do like some different stuff than expected. For example I like Garls Barkley. I'm more into alternative soft rock and Indie. Some of the eltronica/dance genres are ok too.

I agree (: When Rockstar by Nickelback first got really really popular everybody assumed that because they listened to it, not only were they a hardcore Nickelback fan but rock fanatics too. And,, i'm a big Nickelback fan but that song was too overplayed and not at all rock. I listen to mostly rock and some metal but i actually like a couple of pop songs so i don't really fit into a category. Also, people who think classic rock are some of the crappo bands around today.

I agree. I like ICP, Tech9, Twiztid, KMK, Britney Spears, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, the Enemy, HIM, Lady Gaga, Akon, Eminem, Asher Roth, T.I., Justin Timberlake, Soulja Boy, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown, Saving Abel, and Breaking Benjamin. there's alot more but my point is that I go for as much underground music as AT 40. I don't think people should try to classify other people into groups of pop or rap or rock or country.

It goes the same for people who say they hate a certain type of music. Like I admit I used to say I hated country because I didn't like any of the current favorite country songs. But now I realize that I do like some country, just not teh songs people think of.

    1: Soundgarden rules!

2:No one but you should say what you listen to.

3:They only pretend to like one style so they don't get made a fool of.

that's all and keep on rockin

It REALLY pisses me off as well.

Do you know how many death metal posers there are now a days? They claim to like death metal but the bands they listen to are all emo deathcore crap.
