How does Biology relate to Nurses?

Hello, i'm writing an essay for my science class. I am planning to major as an RN Nurse. My question is, how does Biology relate to nurses. I cannot think of any off the top of my head. Examples: If you were to major in Insects, biology topic can be like on the ecosystem. I can't think of any for nurses. Thanx!! =]

Just going over fields of biology and their field of application:

    Anatomy -- surgery

    Biochemistry -- pharmacotherapy

Cell and developmental biology -- obstetrics

Ecology -- basis of hospital acquired infections

Entomology -- medical entomology (identification of insects that cause human disease -- for example, what diseases are carried by what kinds of tick?)

    Genetics -- Medical genetic counseling

    Microbiology -- Infectious disease

    Biology For Nursing

i'm imagining your heart is in the right place, so i'll forgo the knee jerk reaction. i'm an RN with a BS in biology and am working on a phd in nursing. biology is the study of living organisms; all life depends on certain physiological and chemical functions (osmosis, acid-base balance, electron flow, etc.). to work in healthcare you must have a basic understanding of the underlying principles of life. for example, as a nurse you will take people's blood sugar/blood glucose- but that number is meaningless unless you understand the purpose of glucose in our bodies and how we respond to its highs and lows. similarly, how would you respond to the symptoms a patient is experiencing if you don't know anatomy (part of biology) or can't differentiate between serious problems and minor ones? simply put, without biology nurses, doctors, anyone in medicine would be little more than witch doctors.
