35mpg SUVs under 28,000?

I'm looking for a SUV with at least 35 mpg, that costs under 28,000. I don't care what automaker it's from as long as it is offered in the Mid West.I did a little research on my own, but can't seem to find many newer models that have 35mpg that are under 28,000. Any suggestions on where I should look or even specific models and/or automakers?

The only one that comes close is the Ford Escape Hybrid, which will get you about 32 mpg, overall.

Check out carmax.com for some examples or try autotrader.com or cars.com

Why would anyone want to buy an SUV with 35 mpg?

Doesn't that defy the point of an SUV.

If you drive an SUV that gets 35mpg then it will have a 4 cylindor and you will have to many people laughing at you..

I hope and pray to god their is no such thing, that would just be sad.

Get a REAL SUV something with a V8 that gets mileage of 10-18 mpg

Check out the VW TDI Sport Wagen it will get a little over 50mpg on the freeway. The VW TDI just won the Guinness Book or World Records for the best fuel mileage. The road trip was around 6000 miles and they averaged a little over 58 mpg for the trip: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/30/vw-jetta-tdi-se...

The world record was done in a Jetta so the Sport Wagen should get very good fuel mileage too.

I'd say the 2009 Ford escape hybrid is your best choice. It gets about 29-34 mpg and is about 29,000 to 33,000. you should tryhttp://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byclass.htm for fuel economy ratings and http://www.edmunds.com/ for general info and reviews.
