Should I feed my dogs dry or wet dog food? Why or Why not?
I have been feeding them wet food for quite a while now, but I feel that the dry food would be healthier.

Well, its best to mix around what they get because it boring to get the same meal over and over again.
You can buy pet mince and hard dog biscuits and cook it together, its a real treat for the dog as they love meat. you can also add in rice and pasta to make more serves.
You can buy dog meat rolls which you can cut up. but the rolls that are at our shop contain alot of garlic and gives them serious gas. and if you choose, you can mash that up together with dig biscuits too.(no cooking needed)
You can buy cans of food that can be served on its own or with some buiscuts.
And, last of all you can go to the butchers and buy a big bone for them to chew on. it gives them something to do for hours!!
Just be warned, don't give them ALL of this for one meal!! :P
Hope this comes to some help!

I prefer to feed dry. You are correct that there have been several recalls and FDA alerts about pet food in the last several years. Since you have a Dachshund, you are lucky that even the most expensive dog food is in reach for a little dog. You can choose to feed anything you wish. Here are some of the better foods: Innova, California Natural, Karma, Healthwise, Prairie, Merrick, Solid Gold, Organix, Wellness Super5mix, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. Foods to avoid: ANY food sold at Wal-Mart (seriously, none are good). Nutro Max, Nutro Natural Choice, Pedigree, of course, Ol' Roy...all of these have had quality issues recently. I also wouldn't feed Science Diet, Purina, or Iams (crappy ingredients).

I personally would feed dry food with a spoon of canned food each time. That's what works for my dog anyhow.

Wet dog food should only be given for treats on rare occasions. Dry food is much better for them. Wet food rots their teeth. I raise dogs and I feed them a good quality dry food and give them plenty of fresh clean water. I give them some chopped beef occasionally for a treat but I never feed them commercial wet food. My dogs are very beautiful and healthy.

I think that if my dogs bolted their food, or were Boxers or Great Danes, I may feed them wet, as recent studies show that dry food is responsible for more Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus.( bloat)
However, I prefer dry, as it keeps their teeth cleaner. Also, my dogs are grazers, and dry stays fresher throughout the day. It also keeps their LONG ears cleaner. ( Afghan hounds)
High quality Wet is fine, as long as their teeth get plenty of chewing/stimulation, and don't build excess tartar.
Edit:
Oh, my! A person above gave a little rant on free feeding..If I fed twice per day, and took away what they don't eat in a few minutes, my dogs would be extremely prone to deadly bloat, and could not keep good condition... Laziness my ****!
S/he sure didn't take different breeds' needs into consideration.

Well, there are good and bad things on wet food and dry food.
Dry food is cheaper and you can leave it out for a while with out letting it spoil. As with wet food, you can only leave it out for only a couple of hours. But, also, wet food may be high in protein and fat. While with dry food, they sometimes spray protein and fat. I mix dry and wet food with my dog's food, it encourages him to eat the healthy dry food, with some flavor. At least, that is what I think, but it is really up to you.

hi,
As more people understand the importance of nutrition to their own health, they're starting to consider what's in their dog's food bowl as well. Food manufacturers are only too happy to oblige, and the latest products are likely to be labeled natural or organic, and include ingredients said to promote health, such as blueberries and salmon oil. That said, it can still be a challenge to sort out high-quality chow from the canine equivalent of junk food.
here are some guidelines:

hope this helps.

Dry food is where all the nutrition comes from. Wet food is about 80% water. Your dogs don't need to eat wet food as long as they drink enough water. If you look at B.G or Evo wet food it tells you that it is meant for supplemental feed only. If your dogs drink enough water and don't have urinary tract problems, then you're going to be fine with feeding dry food. However you can mix it to entice them to eat their dry food or as an added treat.
