Care giving, help in understanding what to do.?

Think is i became unemployed a couple of months ago. i know that's no big news. but a couple of weeks ago i stated helping a relative. who is house bound. and needs help all day long. i promise it's hard work. but that's ok. thing is i've been told that if the job centre find out i could lose the job seekers allowance.

If so is there any other allowance that i could claim because the allowance i get now is all i claim i don't claim for anything else. so it's all the money i have. and although i can live on very little i need something, and cannot expect the person i'm looking after to pay me, as they don't have much themselves. any ideas would be much appreciated because i'm new to all this sort of thing.

I can't see how you can lose your jobseeker's allowance unless you are claiming Carer's Allowance. I suppose they could split hairs by saying that, technically, you're not available for work but that would be disgraceful.

Best bet is to check it out with your local Citizens' Advice Bureau. There is no way you are breaking the law if you are not being paid for your help.

Check out Carer's Allowance and if it's more than Jobseeker's Allowance thengo for that for the time being.

    Good luck x
