What does Bragg's liquid aminos taste like?

I'm considering buying some, but won't if it tastes like soybeans.

I don't like soy products, they taste awful. They promise good stuff, but seriously can't deliver, so I dropped them alltogether.

Although I don't like it much, I still drink soymilk 'cause I need something to eat cereal with. I also cook with it, and this way, it tastes fine. As for other vegan non-dairy milks, so far I've tried rice milk but didn't like it, too slimy, so I poured it down the sink. I wanna finally stop making soymilk, but this will cut my consumption of a food that's rich in calcium and full protein. Yes, I realize that protein deficiency is rare in the West, and that protein is found aplenty in plants, but still, I wanna cover my trax.

Anywho, I came upon Bragg's online, and am under the impression that if I use it as a seasoning, I can still get the benefit of soy protein without that yucky soy favor. <And> I can stop drinking soymilk!

Sooo, what does it taste like? Does it have even a hint of puke - oops, I mean soybean - flavor?

It tastes like soy sauce. Soy sauce (real soy sauce) is fermented, and tastes different than non-fermented soy. Just a head's up.

    Okay, Bragg Liquid Aminos.

First of all, it's tastes exactly like soy sauce. But it tasted *really* good. Why? I don't know. And what the hell is it, if it's not soy sauce? And, how on earth can it be raw??? And on the label it tells you all the stuff that it isn't, but it really doesn't say anything about what it actually is. And it's SALTY but there is no salt added! Plus, it's a dark black/brown colour, and... how... does it get to be that colour from soy beans? Very strange and it just made me suspicious.

So, I live in Canada and one day ten years ago, approximately, the company was not allowed to call it "Liquid Aminos" in Canada anymore. The name was too ambiguous or something. So that got me wondering even more.

Try as I might, I could not find out anything about the product. Finally I found a website where some people were also trying to find out about this mysterious product.

So, the answer is: you take soy protein (I guess TVP kind of stuff), and you mix it together with... guess what? That's right, **hydrochloric acid**. "This would break it down to amino acids, but of course it would be too acidic to be palatable. .... then neutralize the acid with baking soda" Salt is a byproduct of this process.

And, none of this has to be put on the ingredients label because it is all part of the "process". Just as adding sugar to honey to stop it from gunking up the machinery is part of the 'process' and need not have "sugar" put on the label of 100% Pure Honey.

So, depending on the amount of heat used, or created by the chemical process itself, the product may or may not have been heated to the point where it would be called 'raw'. But, hey, if it were a 'raw' product, it would be a live product and need to be kept in the fridge, just as with yogurt, real pickles, real sauerkraut, etc. plus it would be giving off a gas as the product further fermented etc. I just don't believe that it's raw. I say this because I've seen the ingredient used in raw food recipe books. Even if it IS raw, I wouldn't want to consume this. I used to and after investigating it, threw it in the garbage.

I absolutely love liquid aminos. They taste pretty much like soy sauce, but there is a little extra something about them. If you don't like soy sauce, you probably won't like liquid aminos, as they are similar in flavor, but I think the Braggs is way better. I use liquid aminos in almost everything I make from gravies, to peanut sauce, to stroganoff, and I've never achieved the same flavor when I've had to substitute soy sauce. When I have to use soy sauce, it just seems like the flavors are flat- Braggs has a much richer, deeper flavor than regular soy sauce, in my opinion.

It tastes like soy sauce. Also, you'd never be able to get enough of it to get much protein. Have you tried almond milk?
