What is your favourite old school Manga/ Anime series?

What are your top five old school anime or manga series?

To quality the series must be 'over' 15 years of age.

Therefore, people who state Naruto, Death Note or even One piece for that matter, will be shot on the spot ( No rhyme intended)

My personal top five:

1.Berserk(1989)- 20 years, and still going strong.

2.Lupin III(1967)- Possibly the best crime/ detective series ever made.

3.Fist of the North Star(1983)- A decent combat based series.

4.Black Magic(1983)- Cyberpunk/ mechanoid manga at its finest.

5.Blade of the immortal(1994)- A true samurai manga, only rivaled by Vagabond.

Kind Regards.

Yes, I know many of you will say Dragonball(1984) ._. or Sailor moon(1992) =D

Update:

In response to ~Nyaa~ : It is invevitable that animation will become more sophisticated over time, but comparing them on story line and depth, the older stuff far outshines the series out today, many of which are purely made for profitable gain and aimed towards a young pre teenage audience. In fact older mangas possess better art in my opinion, it is only the anime that differs.

Update 2:

You are very welcome cappucci.... I just feel that most discussion nowadays in C&A is focused on recent Shounen pieces, people tend to forget these gems.

and yes Lupin III is awesome^^

Update 3:

At Katou Asuka : Yes, but it is always a challenge to pick a few, and I stated top five as I didn't wan't you to waste 'too' much time pondering over my questions.

BTW Vagabond is 1998 =D Otherwise it would have been on my list, beautiful piece of work though.

X/1999 (1992)- A classic CLAMP series. Slight shonen-ai, but the apocalyptic theme makes it bothe interesting and different.

Yu Yu Hakusho (1990)- Both hilarious and clever. It appeals to boys because of the awesome fight scenes, and girls because of the various pretty boys who pop up.

Vagabond- Classic samurai epic. 'Nuff said there.

Cowboy Bebop- Clever, with a good blend of comedy, tragedy, sci-fi, and great character development.

Gundam- I'm not talking about the latest series, I mean THE original Gundam. Art is a bit shaky, but the plot and characters are interesting.

Tokyo Babylon- Prequel to X/1999. More pretty guys, and great art by CLAMP.

Descendants of Darkness- I know, I know, it's kinda shonen-ai-ish, but the characters and plot are great, and the smatterings of comedy and tragedy make it interesting.

    Black Jack- Classic. Absolutely classic.

Sailor Moon- The classic girl's anime series. Trying watching it again, and I promise that it's just as interesting as it was when we were only six

There are probably way more that I haven't put on this list, but you get the point. If these hadn't been created, a lot of the manga that we enjoy lately probably would be way different.

I also realize that there are more than five here, but it's so HARD to narrow it down to only five.

    1. Dragon Ball -- It's a classic. Even though now if I see it again, I'll be like what was I thinking? LOL

    2. Sailor Moon -- I'm a gal and a gal always have a Magical Girl phase when they're younger and no I will not reveal my age!!! LOL

    3. City Hunter -- Hilarious! I remember LMAO everytime I read the manga. Not really a fan of the anime tho. It started at 1985 but I didn't watch it that early. I'm not that old.

    4. Mari Chan series by Kimiko Uehara-- I was young and naive...I love ballet too so...LOL

    5. Doraemon -- My Sunday morning routine back home always started with Doraemon instead of church. LOL

    ^_^

NB: That brings back a lot of memories! Thanks

Maybe it's just me, but does anyone remember Urusei Yatsura? Whenever a discussion comes up like this, some people don't even know what I'm talking about ... between that Macross, Robotech, and Bubblegum Crisis I was sold on anime.
