What age was your child when you first left them home alone?
Was it a run to the store or an all day thing? Thanks!

My twins were 12 when I started letting them stay home for short periods to run to the store or whatever but no more than a couple hours.
My middle son was 11 because he is mature for his age and I knew he could handle it.
I have never left my youngest alone yet, he is 9 but I do allow him to stay with my twins who are now 14 but just for a couple hours at a time.
Now I am comfortable leaving my twins home even if it will be for a whole morning or afternoon, they are 14 and are responsible. My middle son is 12 now and he also is able to stay home for longer periods alone or with his older brothers.

Well, we have a live-in nannie that I completely trust (known her since I was 15) so I don't really have to worry about that. I would say around ten I would leave him/her by herself for an hour or so (quick trip to grocery store). It also depends on maturity. I have a boy and two girls. 8 year old boy and 6 year old girl and a 5 year old girl. I don't think I am going to leave my boy alone until he is much older because he always try new "tricks" like sliding down the banister or jumping off the balcony onto the trampoline. My girl even though she is six, watches where she is walking, is careful when she does anything, and knows not to open the door to strangers. She will probably be left alone when she is 10, and as for my boy, maybe 12-14?

My stepson is 9 1/2 and we will leave him for a quick trip to the store. He can be trusted. We have 2 neighbors on each side so he can run there if there's an emergency.
I was much older before my mother left me home alone. Maybe 12 or 13. We lived out in the country though and no neighbors.

I havent left mine alone yet (she is only 4 and a half and the baby is 7 months) but i do leave the house for brief periods like to get the mail (in front of the house) or to start the car, just so she grows a sense of its ok if mommy leaves me forr just a second, maybe longer, and I can remember my mom leaving me alone when i was around 10 i think it was, just as long as it isnt at night i think its fine, night leaving shouldnt be done until kids are WAYYY older, its too scary of a world out there now. I plan on making my outside trips a little longer each year until maybe i can leave her alone(while i take the baby of course) to talk to a nieghbor for 20 minutes, then maybe by 10 i will be comfortable.

I was 6 when my parents started leaving me alone, of course I was with my 8 and 5 year old brothers. So I really wasn't alone. I knew what I was allowed to do. I also knew what I could do and they would never find out as long as I put every thing back where I got it from. So depends...

my parents left me home alone when i was 2 years old because i fell asleep in a lawnchair in my backyard and my dad went out to meet my mom at a relatives house and he thought she took me with her when she left. that must have been a funny scene
