Is revolution in the US a possibility?

Historically, when the majority of people go hungry, homeless or broke, while the ruling faction faces prosperity, revolution occurs.

In your opinion, how possible is the occurrence of a modern day revolution in the US?

    A revolution...possible.

Running through the streets killing each other, probably not likely.

I think this revolution will be more like the people gathering and firing The pres, Congress and the House of Reps. They are all a bunch of corrupt liars and cheats and don't deserve to be in office.

First off, revolution by whom? against whom? Democracies tend not to be overthrown except by the military, and I think that is unlikely. Revolutions occur when the people have an overarching desire for change, and there is no outlet for that change to be realised. And what would replace the status quo? What do the majority want to replace Democracy with exactly? The common market? eh? If the majority in the UK wanted out, then the UK Independence party would be in power, what was their percentage of the popular vote last time? As for immigration, ditto the last statement for the BNP. The erosion of free speech is something which worried me, but it appears that the majority will accept this as long as they have the illusion of safety. So I live in New Zea land. Take a look out the window at the people going to work. Does that lot look like revolutionaries? It's sad but true, most people do not desire freedom, just good masters. As we can chuck out the government every 4 years, I can't see the pressure for change ever building up to a critical mass where the people will endure hardship and death for the promise of a better (whatever that means) government. Just because you and your mates hate the common market and immigrants, it doesn't mean that everyone else does, or if they do, it doesn't mean it's that big deal for them. So I think your Sociology lecturer is right in his/her assessment. Sorry

In a way it is already under way. The ideological division is very apparent and with no end in sight. Obama is making some very hard left turns, and many as you well know from yesterdays tea party protest, are getting fed up with the whole mess. It is also well known Mexican drug cartels are using the existing gangs in the USA to traffic their drugs, yet the left wants to continue to want blanket amnesty for these people. I for one am mad as hell and I just don't know how much more I am willing to endure.

I urge all clear minded people to ignore the hate from people like member zaphod73, this kind of trolling is useless propaganda which only exist because of ignorance.

it won't be a revolution, it will be a civil war. it will happen about 40 years from now. the reasons: Federal government too large, umanageable, corrupt and incompetent, rise of seperatist movements, such as vast spanish speaking cultures in the southwest, rise of immigrant culture with no ties to constitutional government, out of control immigration destroying american culture, loss of international prestige, economic collapse, etc. The opposing forces: Individual states opposed to intrusive federal policies, armed militia movements, units of the armed forces outside the chain of command, loyal armed forces of the u.s., paramilitary forces, police agencies, mexican government troops and drug cartels. This is inevitable following the decline of American culture. Get ready, it's gonna be a ballgame!

“The time has come to act. May future generations look back on our work and say that these were men and women who, in a moment of great crisis, stood up to the politicians, the opinion-molders, and the establishment, and saved their country.” - Congressman Ron Paul

“We are in a new generation. We are finding new leaders to carry the torch of liberty, and we can win.” - Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr.

Everything is possible, but it is not probable. Do you actually think the majority of people in America are hungry, homeless or broke? Where the heck do you live?

I remember when Clinton starting deregulation and my dad said there would likely be a revolution or civil war during my life time.

It's here and I'm ready to fight!

What O'Bomba is doing is a revolution in itself. Wish he'd asked me first before putting this country on the road to ruin.
