Those with ponies/horses with sweet itch in the UK?
Have any of your sweet itch ponies started scratching yet?
Strangely mine hasn't, he has quite bad sweet itch and by early march we have normaly started the annual battle with the dreaded midge.
This year it is now mid april and i've yet to see a single sign of scratching from him. One of his favorite scratching posts is opposite my window so i can watch him most of the day.
So just wondering if this is happening to anyone elses ponies/horses or if the sweet itch vaccine has final done its work (he was on the vaccine trial in 2005, 2006 and 2007).
I'm in north wales so no idea what it is like down south either.
the ponies are swishing thier tails like mad but still have winter rugs on due to the weather (rain, rain and more rain am getting quite sick of it). not a single sign of scratching at all. Unfortunately will be starting this show season with a chunk of mane missing because of a stupid full neck rug i put on him in january!

There are two horses at my yard with sweet itch and they haven't started to scratch yet. Lots of tail swishing going on from everybody on the hot days, but as yet no scratching (fingers crossed!)

All the horses at my livery are swishing their tales and the one who normally gets Sweet Itch is scratching like mad already.
Bad times.
