Question about my 5 year olds tooth?
i think my 5 year old may have some signs of tooth decay of one of her front teeth. i noticed that it has some dicoloration ,its not outright noticeable but i know its there. i tried to brush it thinking it was drink or something but its not going away. i wont be able to call for an appointment until monday but if you can give me some insight to calm my nerves that would be great.also she has yet to lose any teeth. she says that it hurts.
karla, she fell a couple weeks ago. will it continue to get darker? will it have to be removed?

has she bumped it on something? My nephew fell off his bike and hit his 2 front teeth and they discolored. My sister did the same thing when she was little and had to get her teeth pulled b/c the fall killed the nerve and that is why they turned black/grey.
I'd definately take her in for a check on that tooth. My sister was 4 or 5 when it happened and they turned black almost immediately, her 2 front teeth were pulled. My nephews were not.

It may be just a small cavity actually last week I noticed in my 5 yr olds mouth that in the back a gum had grown over her tooth or that's what I thought but her 6 yr molars were coming in and she had a slight cavity they filled.Maybe she is getting teeth in under it and it is causing the pain.Until you can call for an appointment just give her a little bit of advil or tylenol children's kind of course brush her teeth real well also get some of that kids listerine that changes color if there is plaque to see what areas you may be missing trust me it helps.Good luck and take care.

I got a 6 year old son and one of his teeth (baby tooth) went kind of grey coloured. It was like that for months and I didn't think much of it until he went for his dental check up. I was told that he had probably bruised it (ie knocked it hard sometime) and that it didn't matter anyway because it was a baby tooth. He has had this discoloured tooth for over a year now and apart from being a funny colour is just as effective as his other teeth and has not decayed otherwise.
Incidentally, this greyish tooth is one of his incisors (cutting teeth) at the front.
I wouldn't worry too much about it if your child is not complaining.
