I forgot I was supposed to take snacks tomorrow, what should I buy?!?
I forgot I was supposed to take snacks to a seminar at work tomorrow. It's two of us, the other girl said she'd bring salty if I brought sweet. But I was out of town today and totally blanked. Now there's no time to go to the store and get anything to make. I feel terrible that I can't make anything - I bake well and love it but just spaced it out! So what should I buy? We've already seen a lot of cookies and brownies - what's something unique to take or am I out of luck? I also live 45 minutes from work so there's no going home at lunch to whip something up. I looked up a local cupcakery but it doesn't seem that they're open on Mondays and their cupcakes are $27 a dozen!! There will be probably 20-30 people. Suggestions? Much thanks!

I love this question! I gave answers assuming you can hit the grocery store on your way into the office. All of these items can be tossed together in a second or two, and only one requires a microwave so you can use your break room, or (I HAVE DONE THIS ON A TRULY BRAIN DEAD DAY!!!) in a pinch, your cars defroster set on high...been there done that and nobody was the wiser.
Try getting a pile of fruit and some fruit dip from the produce department. A bag of apples with strawberries and chocolate dip and maybe caramel too...yum...and all for about 15 bucks if you really really load up.
OR hit the bakery section and grab an Angel Food cake (about 3 bucks) then sprint over to the baking supplies aisle and snatch up a can of buttercream icing (2 bucks) then race on over to the produce section and grab some strawberries (6 bucks for decent ones) hit the office and zap the frosting for 15 seconds and then drizzle it all over your cake, garnish with berries
OR grab a frozen Sara Lee poundcake (maybe 2 this treat is TO DIE FOR) and a jar of Nutella and a box of strawberries (I do this often enough, it will hit you for about 12 bucks) when snack time hits, slice up the pound cake and tell people to make little "sandwiches" with nutella and strawberries....wow!!
As a last ditch effort, I will pass on this tale. Last year on my birthday one of the idiot men I work with was left to get a cake. Needless to say, he forgot. HOWEVER, he did stop at a 7 11 on his way in and grabbed an entire rack of twinkies, ring dings and fruit pies...it was so tacky it was hilarious! I have to say, it was better than if he did remember a cake! He pulled it off so it was this super trendy idea he came up with, and we all know that deep inside all of us is a twinkie lover screaming to get out...
GOOD LUCK!!

Unless you have some basic ingredients in the back of your pantry that you can make something from scratch there not much unique to get for a treat that's reasonably priced other than cookies, brownies, or candies.
Some chain grocery stores have prepared sheet cakes, pies, or mini tarts.
I'd suggest donuts, but if its afternoon, no one will really want donuts. Besides, they'd get a bit stale.
How about fruit? Not sure what's in season where you live, but snippets of fresh grapes go great as a snack. Or bing cherries. Or perhaps those little easy to peel mini-tangerines called clementines or mandarin oranges. Fruit is healthy, sweet, and easy....and will probably cost less than $27.00 a dozen.
Another option is to make your own snack mix with chocolate nips or M&Ms mixed with dried fruit (raisins, cranraisins, or dried cherries) & some nuts, & some cereal like cheerios, or cinnamon chex...its pretty flexible what you put in it just keep the ratios of ingredients pretty even.
In the afternoons, I often prefer fresh fruit. It's easy too.

Go to your local grocery store's bakery section and buy some of their already baked pies. Most pies can serve 8 people...so you would need about 4 pies. Plus, you can mix and match flavors so it's easy to accomodate a variety of different tastes..helping to ensure there's something for every sweet tooth. It will probably cost around $20/$25 for the 4 pies.
Oh, and BTW...we love to "dress up" a bakery apple pie with caramel ice cream topping lightly drizzled over it along with a handful of honey roasted peanuts sprinkled over the top. We call it our Carnival Apple Pie.

Do you have a Walmart close by they have a bakery and the mini cupcakes are sssssooooo good. Sometimes they have different designs made out of cupcakes also.
