Car seat covers: Any experience?
I've got a snag on my main drivers seat that's left a tear. I wanted to try out a car seat cover and thought about actually getting a set. Are these worth getting?? Do they look to obvious and tacky or do they look the business?? Are they easy to fit on??
Cheers

I installed a factory replacement set from http://www.katzkin.com/main.html
This is the real deal and will take some work, but as long as you got the time, you'll do ok.
So here is the deal. They do look like factory, in some cases they even ARE factory. The life depends on what you get. If you pony up for the real leather, then yes they'll be great. If you do like I did and get pleather, then eh. But I got mine for a steal on ebay.
Basically what you'll need is a bunch of "hog rings" and a special plyer to bend them. But it works like this.
1. Remove the seat
2. Remove old hog rings and then remove cover.
3. Slip on new cover. Because these are modeled after factory patterns they do fit snug and you have to work them on. Use a little talc powder to aid in slipping them on.
4. Install new hog rings and there ya go.
I did both front and rear seats in about 3.5 hours.
Depending on how common your car is, you may just want to get a new seat. Some of the U-Pull it salvage yards sell bucket seats for as little as $10. That would be the easiset.
Other than that, my co-worker has this neoprene seat cover that fits pretty well, but its mostly for people that go fishing, surfing, etc that may damage the seat. It just slips over.
The seat covers you see at Walmart, Target, etc, those are garbage and not worth the money.
Good luck!

the cheaper they are the worse the fit go for the most expensive you can afford or just by a drivers seat cover they have vibrating ones heated ones made of beads will cover the tear if it is in the main body of the seat and massages the driver at the same time halfords have a good range of styles

No seat covers (at any price) will take the place of the original material. They will all look like a cover, they won't match the rest of the interior they'll fit loose and look cheap.
And if you're thinking of going with expensive covers you can pay a good automotive interior man to fix the seat for practically the same price.

You should never add anything to a carseat that doesn't come in the box or directly from the manufacturer for your particular carseat. It could void your warranty and put your child at risk. You could try calling Graco and see if they have some you could buy or see if they have a suggestion. The previous poster about the chest clip was correct. Some of the strap covers that are on the market push the chest clip down. Chest clips need to be at armpit height to keep the harness in the correct postion.

They are worth it. They help protect the seats last longer and don't wear out as fast. They look fine if you buy the right kind for your car. very easy to install as well.

So are so aren't but ultimately you are the one who can decide from experience I tell you don't get them too cheap cause I got a set for mine but that day I was angry and the cover was a little tight to fit correctly and I finished tearing the whole thing up.

Cheap ones look tacky... a top and upholstery shop can fix your seat for less than a good set of seat covers...
Use an automotive upholsterer though, not a household one...

The dealer can get you an exact match replacement cover, It'll cost $$$. Quality covers are also available in car part stores, as well as cheaper ones of lower quality.

They are really easy to put on, and come in a variety of styles. Look around the auto shope until you find one you like. And they are pretty cheap too.
