My 6 years old having wet dreams?? help please !?
Over the last few years I have frequently found my young son asleep with his hand down his shorts touching his willy. It freaked me out to start with but then thought It couldn't mean anything as he was only 3 and 4. He is 6 now and I went in to wake him up for school this morning and he was asleep with his hands down his shorts again .. when he got up he had a wet patch on his shorts. What on earth can this mean? Surely he is way to young to be having wet dreams?? I am a single mum and know nothing about boys and things like this. Please help. Is this normal and what should I do or say ??
Thanks x
Thanks for all your good advice .. just to add .. this is purely at night .. never in the day time.

He is too young to have wet dreams. He will not be producing sperm until he goes into puberty. The wet spot could be a bit of urine. If he is playing with himself it is because it feels good, at this age he is not having sexual thoughts.
Holding ones 'package' while asleep is a primitive protective posture, nothing to worry about.
There is no reason to do or say anything yet. When the time comes, and it will with a boy, don't make him feel shamed or guilty. Let him know that its ok to play but it is a private activity.

At 6 - he's too young to have "wet dreams"- that occurs during puberty (13-18). You can talk to him about what is "appropriate" behavior (if he is feeling himself in public) But if this is at night only - it is a case of "self comforting". You can discourage the behavior by saying that "we don't play with our private parts". But he may not be aware he is doing it - don't make a big deal over it. If he was a litle wet- it was more likely to be because he needed to urinate (which causes a hard on in the morning) - This is perfectly normal male behavior - (remember Michael Jackson?)- They never get over checking to make sure it is there!

Hi hun,
Okay, firstly, my little brother who is now 6 has constantly got his hands down his pants and he has done this since he was only small. The good news is, my brother has started to grow out of it so it is just a habit for comfort, which probably goes the same for you son.
And secondly, couldn't the "wet patch" be him wetting himself. But if he has had a wet dream then I suggest you go and see your GP who will possibly talk to your son and see what is going on.
Does your son ever talk about girls and boobs and things like that?
Hope I helped,

Apparently it's very normal behaviour. So don't freak out about it. If he's doing it while he is awake then just ask him not to do that in front of other people. Try not to shout or make him feel embarrassed. There is some good advice in the link below.
Source(s): "Masturbation does not cause any physical injury or harm to the body. It is not abnormal or excessive unless it is deliberately done in public places after age 5 or 6. It does not mean your child will be oversexed, promiscuous, or sexually deviant. Only if adults overreact to a child's masturbation and make it seem dirty or wicked will it cause emotional harm, such as guilt and sexual hangups." http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/pa/pa_bmasturb_hhg.... :-) - How do you think about the answers? It is a very, very normal thing for boys to do that, even girls find out it feels good down there and young age. Do not say anything to him because he is not doing anything wrong.

Sounds a bit.... :S
If he was 9 or 10 then it would still be early, but yeah wouldn't be as bad, but this is a bit...
I think you should talk to him about it and see what he tells you, he might not say much and be embarrassed.
You can always ask your GP next time you go to the doctors.

I would suggest that you say absolutely nothing to him - don't turn this into an 'issue' that may affect him.
If you have a concern about whether it is biologically normal, talk to your family doctor for reassurance.
