Does anyone know any simple dinner recipes?

Okay, so this is my problem. I am currently pregnant with my first child and about to have a family. My boyfriend just came to live with me, and comes home at around 4:30-5am. I am usually up at that time, because of my horrible sleeping schedule, so I don't mind cooking for him when he gets home. The problem that I have is that I usually never cook; the only times I cook are with my mom and we make dishes that take 3-4 hours like lasagna, baked pasta, eggplant parmigiana, etc.. (we're Italian). I think if I had a recipe I would be able to cook very well, but without one my cooking is disgusting; I cannot even make rice! The only thing that I can really make on my own is pasta with tomato sauce, and I know my boyfriend doesn't like that very much, he just eats it because that's all I really know how to make. I feel bad though because every time he comes home I just end up warming something up for him like hot dogs or hot pockets or making him a grilled cheese sandwich. I do not work, but I do go to school. He both goes to work 12 hour days and goes to school, also. I do clean up after him, and do his laundry, but he does so much more for me so I feel like I owe him this much. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do like what kind of dishes I could make for him that would not take more than an hour or so? Thank you!

Make a box of Barilla pasta and you have instant meals for a while. In a bowl, put some extra virgin olive oil and garlic. Drain, but don't rinse the pasta and pour into the bowl and add more oil while stirring. This keeps it from sticking. A whole box will last a few meals and you can make different sauces for each night.

Can of clam sauce with mushrooms is fast and easy.

Jar of Alfredo with saute'd chicken is simple and quick

Can of clams with the juice simmered with shrimp is fine.

I saute'ed sliced chicken breasts with pesto, garlic and oil until tender and it was delish!

Rice is simple to make. It's 1c rice to 2 cups water and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat to low and cover until almost done. When almost done, turn off the heat, but leave it on the burner covered until all the water is gone.

The fried rice is even better. RiceARoni is quick and easy and you can add meat to it with the water and cook that all together.

Here's a soup that won't fail you. I don't know if it's still cold by you or not, but this is an instant soup that doesn't taste instant. Minestrone, the canned version.

    One can each, drained

    corn

    peas

    green beans

    diced potato

    sliced carrot

white beans (any kind) not drained

2 cans diced tomato, not drained

    2 cans beef broth

1 pound of cooked italian sausage, like ground beef

Heat to hot and serve with bread or crackers.

    Good luck, kiddo.

First, congratulations on your pregnancy. You haven't lived until you've had children.

easy recipe... take about a pound or so of hamburger out of the freezer just before your boy friend leaves for work, and put it in the fridge so it will slowly defrost.

Brown the meat in a good sized frying pan, add canned or fresh mushrooms, cream of mushroom soup, heat till boiling for about 3 mins, then let simmer for until the meat is done.

Get some good sized egg noodles, boil in about a cup and a half of water until noodles are tender and limp... drain the noodles.

Take your hamburger/cream of mushroom and mix in the noodles in a good sized bowl. You can make it as thick or as thin as you like by adding water or milk to the hamburger while its simmering.

Since you're Italian, I'm sure you have some garlic around the house... some garlic, black pepper, and maybe some bits of chopped celery will spice it up just a bit.

Its not much, but its filling, cheaper than hamburger helper, and takes less than 30 mins to prepare.

If you'd like more short prep time recipes, send me a message here, and I'll email some recipes to you, and give you some kitchen tips.

    You can try Fettuccini Carbonara , delicious and very easy to make and this is a GREAT recipe;

    5 teaspoons olive oil

    4 shallots, diced

1 large onion, cut into thin strips

1 pound bacon, cut into strips

    1 clove garlic, chopped

1 (16 ounce) package fettuccini pasta

    3 egg yolks

    1 cup heavy cream

    3/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

    salt and pepper to taste

Heat olive oil in a large heavy saucepan over medium heat. Saute shallots until softened. Stir in onion and bacon, and cook until bacon is evenly browned. Stir in garlic when bacon is about half done. Remove from heat.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente. Drain pasta, then return it to the pot.

In a medium bowl, whisk together egg yolks, cream, and shredded Parmesan. Pour the bacon mixture over the pasta, then stir in the cream mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Serves 6

Chicken dish- 500g-1kg chicken breasts, 1-2 containers of creme fraiche(or sour cream) 1 bottle of chilli sauce Cut chicken breasts into quarters. Put in an oven proof dish. Mix together creme fraiche and chilli. Pour over chicken. Cover. Cook for 20-30 mins 180-200 deg. Cel Serve with rice and boiled vegetables. I find the best recipes come from childrens books. The library is a good source. Roast chicken is also a very easy dish. Wash and pat dry chicken. Put it in an oven proof dish. Peel and halve potatoes. Put it around the chicken. If you want a garlicky taste, peel and crush at least 3 cloves of garlic and spread it over the chicken. Or you can take a few sprigs of rosemary, rub a few leaves over the skin of the chicken. sprinkle the rest over. Cook for about an hour. Enjoy
