Kickboxing: kick with shins or foot?

... or any other style for that matter. For a basic roundhouse kick is it better to kick with the shins or with the foot?

You kick with the shin. But it's good to condition your shin first. The reason why majority prefers the shin is because you can easily damage the ball of your foot and bruise them as well. The shin is harder and can let you kick while putting more weight on to the kick which gives more damage.

... no we aren't kidding. Muay Thai uses a specific type of kick which uses the shin to maximize damage. Trust me it doesn't hurt as much kicking somone with your shin as it does trying to block a kick with your shin. Muay Thai fighters also practice kicking with their shin a lot to deaden the nerves and strengthen the shin bone. Don't worry though the nerves grow back (so I've been told).

There's a few diagrams off wikipedia I found since I was wondering about the differences in the kick as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kickboxing#Kicking Looks like your try to hit them with the area between your shin and your foot. And kicking with your foot is a big no-no as someone already pointed out you can really hurt yourself.

I have taken Muay Thai for over 7 years and the shin is a more dense bone than any area of the foot, there is less skin and nerves too, which helps in conditioning the pain tolerance.

in Tae Kwon Do and Karate i think they don't let use use shins for point sparring but I'm not entirely sure, sometimes the top of foot is best for face or the neck, but you should always use use your shins for the roundhouse, you get hurt alot less ok

The roundhouse kick in karate styles kick with the intention landing with the bone that sticks out at the end of the ankle. And of course kickboxing or muay thai intends to land with the shin.

use shin when u wanna kick its a lot more power than anything but be careful with leg kicks if ur kicking with shin

if the guy leg checks it will hurt a lot

and the guy up is retarded

how do u break shins with head?

use the shin, it's a huge and hard bone in the leg, the foot has many tiny and fragile bones in it, there for very easy to break, the shin bone wont. kicking with the shin if you generate enough power, and force is like hitting your opponent with a bat.

depends on what style you are using. Muay Thai its the shin, other arts utilize the instep, others use the ball of the foot.
