Bettas died in 1 day?

Yesterday april, 23, 2009, i bought 3 bettas(2 king bettas, and 1 long tail). during the day i bought them, they died at night(i was like WTF). how come this happen? i've raised MANY bettas before, and they lived long. the 3 bettas didnt last me 1 day.

possible reasons:

could it have been the water? i just used the water from the sink(tap water, no water cleaning medicine)

2 of the bettas lived in a BIG bottle that had lemon in it(we drank it all). so i used the bottle for the betta to live in.(and yes i washed the bottle 2 times before having the bettas live in it.

could their still be a little w/e left that could've kill the 2 bettas?

the other giant betta lived in a fish bowl(it died a little later after the 2 died). how come he die.

could the water from the sink have sumthing to do with it?

the water temp. was 78-82

please help!! i have no clue, mad as hell.

P.S. i lost $31 freakin dollars!!, the fishes was from PetCo, FAGS!!! the betta were in SEPERATE tanks!! for those who were critizing me before.

but thanks, THEY WERENT IN THE SAME TANK.

1st NEVER go to PetCo.........god I hate that trashy store! 2nd if anything it probably was the water. Its highly recommended that before you put the fish into water from the sink, that you leave the water out in an open container or their tank for at least 24 hours! Then you can safely put them into their new home. Also I'm not sure if PetCo does this, but PetSmart will let you bring in the dead fish within a 30 day period for a full refund. Sorry about your fishies : / Wow.... people need to learn to read, he said SEPARATE TANKS! Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Unless you have a heater for their homes, the water would of quickly cooled off, leaving them cold. Putting them into un-aged or non-cycled water will stress them to death. Tap water is fine as long as its treated for chlorine and aged for a few weeks. Now, i have, in desperation, put a betta in a tank, heated, with water aged only 3 days and he lived, but I don't recommend it. It was either the un-treated, un-aged water that did them in, along with Temperature flucation or the stress from being moved and the water that probably did them in. if you've kept the bodies, take them back and tell them how quick they died.

first of all where do you live because you said yesterday april 23...well where i live its still april 23 10:28 in the morning....but anyways i had several betta fish and i had some to live a long time and some to live a short time so i mean i think it all depends on the fish. oh and they are fighting fish so you dont put them together they kill each other

Tap water has Chlorine, Chloromines and heavy metals which are all lethal to fish, you need some Tetra Aquasafe.

Bettas need at least 2.5g, but I say nothing less than 3g.

They need a good diet and their tank needs to be cycled and they need a heater set at 78-81F.

    Good luck!

It was probably the water. I know you shouldn't use tap water because there are chemicals in it that harm fishies (like chlorine)

I use water from the store in the gallons. They have been at room temperature and have no chemicals in them. It is cheap also. Maybe there is a warranty on them..like if they die within so many hours of ownership they will refund the money? Call the store to find out.

Ok. I think that the 2 fish that were in the lemon bottle were poisoned. If you used soap to clean out the bottle, then that could have been another possibility. Or, they could have simply been sick.

You can't put a betta with another fish! They fight! A betta is the #1 fighting fish in America! OH and make sure the next time u get one use a heater put 2.5 gallons of water in its tank and don't put the betta with another fish!

    Hope it helped!
