Why do so many people, from the UK who hate immigration, want to emigrate to Australia or New Zealand?

Isn't complaining about unwanted incomers going to a country and ruining it for the locals, then posting the Anzac countries as an ideal just a bit hypocritical?

Update:

Historically, he interaction between the British and particularily the Australian Aborigine poeople can in the best light be compared to the USA's methods of dealing with the American Indians and in some cases was more an attempt at removing the natives. So why, do you think that your superior to people coming into the UK, or do you take the more credible standpoint of 'might makes right'.

Yes - it is completely hypocritical to label people coming here as scroungers and criminals, then go to live somewhere else.

Isn't everyone forgetting the history of settlement in ANZAC countries - of white people displacing the Maoris and Aborigines who are genuinely native to the land, and of a society made up initially of people who were deported to Australia as criminals?

Completely agree Pat - might certainly does not make right!

Movement of peoples all over the world has gone on since time began but in the beginning there were no borders or restrictions as governments didn't exist. Of course the native people in Australia,New Zealand and The Americas were traumatised by the new immigrants and their culture nearly destroyed. If I was to be humorous I'd say much like the natives of this country were traumatised by the arrival of the Romans etc etc and now by the new immigrants !

Yeah I know! I wish I could emigrate... I'd go to france and buy a little smallholding. I think it's mostly because places like Australia and New Zealand have really strict immigration control, we don't. We let anyone in and it's sort of ruining the place! Not the immigrants, I haven't a problem with them, if I were born in a middle eastern country and had the chance to come to England I'm sure I would too, it's the government that are just letting them and then changing all the rules... it's a long business!

I don't wish to emigrate because of the immigrants here, it's because of our nanny state and the eu laws and all that nonsense.

I think Pat has a point. There is a huge difference between people coming into your country and scrounging off the natives and killed and ousted out of your own country and killing off your own culture.

Before you protect about English culture being killed off, it is still nothing like American Indians and Aborigine people.

Not all immigrants want to stay in this country. Some are educated and are only here for a while before going to their own country, which they prefer.

I do however agree that for some other groups of immigrants, there are far too many and do use the benefits system and not work. But there are different groups of immigrants and not all classed into own group.

As for English emigrating abroad, when do they ever learn the native language? If you went to Australia, USA or India, China, Hong Kong. You do not integrate with the natives, but set up your own schools, religions etc.

Perhaps their beef is not with immigration on a whole but who they are letting into the country. When I was there 10 years ago I was amazed at the number of Muslims there in London and since then I have been back 2 other times and the number of 3rd world immigrants is.........confusing. When you have PC govt that needs votes to stay in power they will continue to let undesirables into a country at the expense of the host countries culture. The worst part is the England is a barometer of things to come in the USA.

Canada also has a weak immigration policy and I go there about every other week or so.

My daughter emigrated to Australia and is very happy there. I've visited her many times and it doesn't appeal to me but that is probably an age related factor. However, she took many skills and qualifications with her (saving the OZ government considerable costs) and more importantly, she speaks the language, has never looked for benefits and all in all is both an asset to OZ and a loss to the UK. If our immigrants met even half of the foregoing criteria, they would be welcome here!

No not really - because if a Brit settles in another country they normally pay their way, get a job, pay taxes, buy property, etc. We in the UK are being swamped by immigrants who see the UK as a "soft touch" and a "cash cow" which gives them access to benefits, schools, medical treatment and housing. All of this they receive having paid nothing in. Many of them come here illegally and our stupid Government have not got tight enough controls in order to deter the "less desirables" as other countries have.

    You're absolutely right, of course.

However, what you've failed to understand is that the UK has a large enough population as it is with housing and employment problems.

New Zealand is not so over-populated. And if you want it to stay that way I'd start protesting about immigration if I were you.

Because the countries you mention do let just anyone in and they will not be ruined the way England has been by mass immigration.
