Whats the fuel/oil ratio for a Yamaha 30 hp outboard motor?

I have an outboard motor I think was built in the 90's (30SG) that i thought needed a 50 to 1 mixture which I have been using for the past 3 years but today I noticed on a tag near the fuel connection it shows 100/1. Is that right and have i caused any damage?

It has always run smoothly but smoked a little bit when first starting.

100:1 is fine - if you use the correct top quality lube mixed well with fresh good quality fuel on the day. Sadly most engines get to use whatever sludge has been in the can since last year, mixed with the cheapest recycled chook fat from Kmart, so 100 to 1 is too lean for reliable use.

Stick to 50:1 as the problems caused locally were legend when that idea first came out. Auto oil injection varies from 300:1 down to 50:1 depending on load and revs.

No if anything as 50/1 is a much more amount of lubrication in the fuel and you will only fowl plugs more if it has run well for 3 years keep it at 50/1

No you have not hurt your engine, like Jimmy said, you are running it rich which the only impact is fouling plugs. Normally on an oil injected engine will vary the injection between 50:1 to 100:1 depending on what the on board computer says.

Your safe, and so is your motor.
