I am an owner of a heating and airconditioning company in northern Minnesota. I've been in the trade since 1979. Worked in various states in the US, and since 1995 in Minnesota where I grew up. I enjoy trying to help answer questions about the trade and in the process hone my listening skills. Answers from other contributing members also helps to keep an open mind for all possible answers. Posters rarely give enough pertenant information about the equipment or the exact problem to be helpful in all situations. I try to do the best I can with the experiences I've had to help people. In my area there are a lot of doit your selfers like farmers who refuse to depend on other people for the actual repair.

  • Should I have the hard drive erased?

I am sending back a failed hardrive from a dell laptop and it more than likely has personal data on it.

Should I send it back as is and trust that dell will scrub the hard drive or should I try to erase it somehow. If so how?

  • Whats the fuel/oil ratio for a Yamaha 30 hp outboard motor?

I have an outboard motor I think was built in the 90's (30SG) that i thought needed a 50 to 1 mixture which I have been using for the past 3 years but today I noticed on a tag near the fuel connection it shows 100/1. Is that right and have i caused any damage?

It has always run smoothly but smoked a little bit when first starting.

  • Pressure washed a Honda cb900c now runs rough?

My brother gave me a motorcycle that he said ran perfect. Before he gave it to me he thought he would clean it up and pressure washed it.

The two outside cylinders have a cooler exhaust.

I have checked and replaced spark plugs and wires.

What should I be checking for?

I have drained carb bowls and did not observe any water in the fuel.

Thanks in advance for your response.

  • Interior lights for 2004 Chev van?

I want to add some more interior lights in my van and the existing light in back has two wires going to it. Can I add some lights and just ground the negative side to the chassis so I only have to add one wire?

Why doesnt the factory just ground the negative?

    Will it cause any problems?
